Abatis does seem to be the best answer available, but if these are slow moving zombies I think the real answer is retreat. Turn your half day advantage into say, a two day advantage somewhere else.
Pretty much this. A half day advantage in a theoretical zombie horde situation, where you’re fighting potentially hundreds of enemies, demands stronger fortifications than just field-expedient shit. You’re better off finding another place to fight that’s already decently strong, and fortifying THAT.
