The growing number of lawsuits and treaty revisements to increase actual climate change action gives me hope that humanity might just make it.

I just replace all my tests with noop codes. Quick, easy, passes.
And this is why I hate all web development and the fact that most jobs are web bs these days. Everything has so much crud baked in and including twelve modules with a million functions just to do anything is the norm.
Giving my back my beautiful optimized assembly dangit.
I’m pretty sure March 26 is the day the pre-order started, so that one at least kind of makes sense.
Although I agree in general, the antivirus complaint isn’t really fair. Windows was by and large the largest install base, especially in the corporate sector. It only makes sense it became the most targeted. Scam apps and that’s do exist on Android and Linux, they’re just mitigated other ways. For now.

Almost always follow the money. Often the mayors offer insane tax breaks or land finances or something to attract the companies. Ostensibly to bring in more jobs and boost their own economy. Most do not consider the environmental portion, definitely companies don’t.
Hopefully the mod community writes an AI removal mod quick. Seems like something they’d do. And I was just about to stand up a server for my friends dangit
I can’t comment on fairphone, but the Discord thing is likely not your phone, it’s Discord or something. The same happens to me randomly on a Pixel 6a.
That’s the part that I’m banking on, that 12% has already happened. That’s 12% they’ve lost out on in the short present term. I’m hoping they see that and decide they want that money back. I know they’re probably doing a cost benefit analysis of cost to combat climate change versus potential lost GDP. But still, I’ll take any arrow in the quiver against them.
A recent study (still in peer review phase last I saw but the people who wrote it and good work) showed that the 1C rise in temperatures vs pre-industrial times (which we’re already past) lowered GDP by 12% or more globally. The current 3C that many climate scientists are warning we’re on track for could lower GDP by 50% or more.
Not following the Paris accords or stricter is actually going to hit stockholders hard if the study is accurate.
Thanks for taking the time to list links!
Does being rich cause neurological changes, or do those with those neurological traits by and large try to become wealthy?
Just curious the actual science there. I agree to be that rich shows a lack of empathy one way or another.
He hasn’t gotten away with the defamation against E. Jean Caroll I’d argue.
No sun to warm us, No global warming.
But in all seriousness some of the breakthroughs in fusion reactors have me excited long term. It’s nowhere near ready yet, but we’ve hit net energy gain, just can’t sustain it well.
I did an internship in a small data center. That hurt to read. Made me miss the job too.
Brings me back, Xbox live just doesn’t have the same finesse in it’s trash talk these days.
It’s not just the financial cost though. Going solar+batteries requires a significant increase in lithium production which has all kinds of environmental downsides. New battery tech is in the world to use just sodium and such but we’re nowhere near large scale for that yet. Nuclear (alongside other technology and reducing our power usage) could bridge the gap to the new tech.
Either way, good luck getting anyone in charge to agree on anything, let alone that hurts their coal and gas profits.
Good news then, Microsoft is building a new multibillion dollar AI facility which will ratchet up power demands alongside the increase in power demands for crypto. Oh wait, I said good news. Uhh…
A lot of people are asking for AI. Mostly I run in programmer circles and the amount of people there going crazy for AI to enter everything so it can do everything for them is insane. This leeches across to tech savvy people who don’t understand the mechanics of it, but they see the programmers going bananas and so they want in on it too.
I don’t doubt it. They might be laughing and ignoring what they’re listening to as they count their next set of bribes, but their listening.
