Y’know, I have another problem altogether with audio in Linux in general. Whenever audio starts, there’s a fraction of a second where it doesn’t play anything at the beginning and the audio just “wakes up” and starts to play. This drives me insane when editing sound and music. Also, you won’t hear simple notification sounds because of this. This is permanent on all Linux devices I have and it appears to be a widespread. People have complained about it for a while now and have been trying to figure out workarounds because it seems the devs don’t give a crap about that.

Hmm. This is more for out-of-sync issues. Mine just stops for a whole second or two. But it doesn’t go out of sync.

Oh, no doubt it works. It’s fine if you want to run on older software. You might just miss out on the latest new features for your hardware.

Yes Ubuntu is based on Debian only in the way that it uses the same package manager. The packages are not the same though. They have a totally different release cycle and the repos have more up to date packages and drivers. Not to mention the additional quality of life improvements.

It’s a good middle ground between super stable but older Debian and unstable and bleeding edge distros.

Don’t use Debian for a gaming PC. Period.

Stick with an Ubuntu derivative like Mint or Kubuntu. It’s your best bet.

If you want a gaming exclusive platform, you might want to check out Bazzite as well. But the *buntus are best IMO.

I understand your point and it’s a good argument. But I gotta tell ya… I REALLY miss having a few months of where I can play and just live my life and do what I love. I learned some important life lessons during that break that you just wouldn’t get being in school all year round.

I think we should leave the kids alone for a couple months per year and let them live. Life isn’t just about work.

That plus probably being exposed to covid. Apparently it has really bad effects on the brain and ability to learn.

Man… the dude was my friend since my early teens. We were like brothers. We drifted a bit apart after he moved in the suburbs and had a family. It was hard to hang out with work and everything. He was like the central hub of a group of friends from those early teens.

We had a group chat and new people joined in. Friends of theirs. During the pandemic some became vehemently anti-mask, or anti-vax. It was extremely difficult and awkward when we got back together coming out of the pandemic when it was still a hot topic. One of the guys is a far-right religious type and started pushing Fox News and Andrew Tate clips in the chat and the others either became outraged (in the wrong way, like in agreement with Fox News) or started agreeing with Tate.

Then my best bud became vehemently LGBTQ-phobic. Like it became a conspiracy where they were trying to indoctrinate his kids, 2 girls. Became outraged at trans people and anything related to that.

I tried to talk some sense into them, but it was really not working. They very quickly got deeper into this shit through YouTube videos and their fucking algorithms that keeps pushing more far-right content than anything else. Then it went out of control.

When the other far-right guy posted a Fox News clip about the female olympic boxer who could be disqualified because she was failing a test for testosterone or something, Fox saying she was a trans woman, my friend lost his shit. I didn’t have any more energy to talk any sense in him so I just quit the group chat and never spoke to him or the group again.

I spent some awesome times with those guys and have fond memories of hanging out with them. Sharing DragonBalls mangas, playing GoldenEye 007 on the N64 and later playing Halo on the X-Box together. Watching stupid b-movies and awesome anime. Going out to sports bars together. Playing basketball. Etc.

I feel so lonely right now. I don’t have any friends like them any more and it’s really weighing down on my depression. I only have the one friend from high school left who’s normal, but he’s flaky and often cancels on our plans or is always 1h late to dinners and events. He also never calls me. I’m always the one calling him. He’s not doing too well either so maybe that’s why.

I miss ‘hanging out with the boys’ nights eating wings with beer while estiver l watching sports, or having barbecues, or playing board games or video games.

I have a LOT of lady friends now, though. But it’s not the same.

Yeah back then I was in elementary school. I chased single percent performance gains from bleeding edge because I couldn’t just buy better hardware. If you wanted the latest versions of anything ubuntu couldn’t do it without iffy unofficial repos and dependency hell. I did it anyway and it sucked.

Wait wait… if you had an old ass computer, why did you need the bleeding edge stuff? That doesn’t make sense.

Also, I’m still skeptical about immutable distros. I like being in control of my PC. And I’m too old school I guess.

I have had ONLY NVidia cards since my first ever own PC in 2000 when I started college.

I’ve used Mandrake Linux for a while then switched to Ubuntu when it came out in 2004 and have used that ever since.

I’ve NEVER encountered any problems whatsoever. In fact, it made using an NVidia card easier because of its built-in third party driver installation tool that takes care of everything.

If something doesn’t work, it’s very probable that it’s because the user messed around with something and caused it to happen.

Just use Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Mint if you want a hassle free, secure, and stable Linux distro that supports everything and works out of the box.

Don’t use those gaming centric distros like Bazzite. It’s not worth it. Don’t use Arch or other bleeding edge distros unless you want to keep troubleshooting your system because of problems or vulnerabilities.

Take it from me. I’ve been using Linux since 2001 and Ubuntu based distros have always been the best choice for a secure stable OS.

Heat pumps are a much more energy efficient alternative.
