Retaining some ability to spend and use cash is vital because otherwise, all our financial transactions are totally controlled by the banks, and they are completely untrustworthy. The cost is inconvenience.
It’s the same argument as banning private schools - if the rich have to use the same infrastructure as the rest of us, they’ve got less incentive to dismantle it.

It turns out cable wasn’t some unique product or way of doing things, it’s just the natural form media delivery takes under capitalism. Streaming services are convergently evolving to take that shape too.
