I’m afraid it’s mostly that last one.
Watch people flock to yet another corporate social media honeypot instead of going for something less dystopian.
We also can’t plant enough trees to mitigate climate change.
Really goes for almost everything. I don’t want my machines and appliances to be ‘smart’ and ‘connected’. I just want them to do the thing I use them for, that’s it.
If he isn’t bought and paid for by the fossil fuel lobbies, then he admits to being a complete idiot.
It’s main purpose is to make some die-hards angry, I think.
Read up on the history of… any emancipatory movement, really. Civil disobedience, strikes, direct action, have all involved some forms of violence (be it so-called vandalism, or direct confrontation between groups). Many in reaction to violence by the state or corporations (Battle of Blair Mountain!). Thinking we will achieve far-reaching goals without resorting to some sort of radical actions is ludicrous.
Coincidentally, I had a conversation about dating and climate change with a friend today. We both agreed that people showing off their exotic travel destinations have become a turn-off. Especially when they use airplane emoji’s in their bio. On the other side: it does feel like some sort ‘race’ to show off those fancy place to communicate how well off you are, and not having pics like that may make you less attractive (but then again, why would I want to attract those huge polluters?). Dating gets you in a weird headspace, fucking hell.
Self-regulation fails. Can we solve it with more self-regulation?
Are those still playable? Loved those, great vibe!
One of my cats snores a lot and loudly, but it’s also very cute.
Since when does The Guardian have a paywall?
Played Dredge on the Steam Deck, which was a nice, relaxing experience.
Besides that I’ve been playing Blood: Fresh Supply on my beefy gaming pc. Great fun, much glee when blowing up hordes of cultists.
When we’re at ‘vaporization’ I guess
I think The Guardian has committed a few years ago to call it the ‘climate crisis’ (they also have a dedicated category page with the title). But yeah, language matters. I tend to use climate catastrophe.
Legality doesn’t equal morality. If the legal system is stopping you to do the right thing, then civil disobedience becomes a moral duty.
What would constitute a ‘radical doomer’ then? Or how are they different from ‘regular’ climate activists?
Never too late to limit the impact as much as we can.
