Cliff traps were a technique used to hunt bison and other animals in the mesolithic. It was a very effective way to more safely hunt large animals.
I was a little short in time today. So you get a comic telling you how this works.
A5, Micron 10
There is a museum dedicated to this not too far from where I live called “Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump”
It came up a lot in the research I did for this one. Literally spent more time reading than drawing on this one.
Did ya see buffalo pounds in your digital travels? There isn’t always a convenient cliff, so sometimes peeps got together to build a big ol’ circle of death.
I hadn’t but that reminds me of kite traps. Use stone walls to funnel prey into a stone circle and then into pits.
Hey-o fellow Albertan (probably)! I told a coworker about Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, and his unregulated ADHD mind used that as a vocal stim for the next few hours… I guess the moral is share that info wisely, lol.
P.S. Didja vote? Don’t forget to vote!
Not pictured : walking the long yet hopefully safer path down the cliff and making your way back up hauling like 100kg of meat.
Hopefully camp is somewhere below the cliff so you don’t have to carry it back up.
