Climate@slrpnk.net•The ICE age is over: gas car sales drop 37% in world's biggest marketEnglish1·21 days agoMy local grid frequently hits 100% renewable power, and has even exceeded 100% of demand from only rooftop solar with commercial solar and wind also producing at that time.
The grid needed a few modifications, and there was some brief instability, but everyone survived it and the grid has been stable for over a year.
I think we’ll be fine.

Climate@slrpnk.net•The ICE age is over: gas car sales drop 37% in world's biggest marketEnglish5·22 days agoOil refineries use so much energy that they quite often have a dedicated power plant. The energy required to refine enough fuel to drive 100km could instead be used to drive an EV more than 50km.
Switching to EVs will have much less of an impact on the grid than it initially appears. With overnight or midday charging, EVs can even help spread the load throughout the day and help reduce the evening peak.
V2G/V2H can reduce this peak even further, while only using a tiny amount from each car battery.
Air-conditioning is also a big concern for the energy grid, but as with all new technologies, the grid will be upgraded to handle it. Unless you are employed by a grid operator to plan for the future, you don’t need to worry about it.

23·24 days agoJust not feeling mentally 100%, decided to go for a walk around some quiet streets. I found a spot in sunlight and decided to pause for a moment to enjoy it.
A driver stopped to check on me and ask if I was OK. It made me realise that most people really do care.

Technology@lemmy.world•When Escalator Breaks, It Turns StairsEnglish
2·25 days agoMultiple independent braking systems and adequate maintenance.
A single failure may cause the escalator to stop working, but it takes 3 failures in a row to make it catastrophic. Regular maintenance catches this failures before 3 in a row can occur.

Technology@lemmy.world•When Escalator Breaks, It Turns StairsEnglish
5·25 days agoIf any of the stairs are damaged and cannot stay attached correctly, there is a chance of falling into the machinery below, which will not stop just because a human is in the way.
If the failure is in the braking system, it can quickly turn into rapidly moving stairs, which can be very lethal.
Most escalators have multiple independent braking systems so that this doesn’t happen, but some poorly maintained escalators have been discovered with 2 or even all 3 systems disabled.

It feels pretty easy when all you have to do is observe and give occasional instructions.
Most people are pretty bad at guessing the amount of effort someone else needs to complete a task.
Most people also have enough empathy to ask how much effort it was instead of telling you what they experienced and assuming it was the same for you.Unfortunately, some people will still think a headache is painless because they are not the one experiencing it.
I’ve had issues with printers and printer drivers until I got a brother laser printer. It seems to just work all the time.

4·2 months agoYou also have to work 2-3 positions at the same time, without the required equipment to accurately monitor the location of planes, with faulty alarms going off multiple times per day, and you get blamed if you lose concentration for a second at the wrong moment.
I did not say that, and I did not imply it either. I was telling you what you can do to improve your interactions with this community and it’s mods.
I was given moderator privileges a few hours ago. I have not yet seen those comments, and had nothing to do with them.
I suggest taking some time away from this to clear your head before making further comments. It’s hard to argue in good faith while angry.

131·2 months agoI’m always happy to listen to feedback, and change my behaviour when I’m wrong.
I will not be removing comments just because they have been reported, or just because I disagree with them. I will only be removing comments that explicitly break the rules as listed on the sidebar. You are welcome to report any comment you believe should be removed. There is no penalty for incorrectly reporting something if it is done in good faith (i.e. don’t report everything just because I said no penalty).
While not explicitly against rule 1 (Be nice), I believe “zionist rats” could have been phrased as “zionists” or “zionist people” while still making the same point.

I have 2. One has broken twice from over use, so I reprinted the broken piece and swapped it.
