When I was a child I HATED the transition from dry to wet and then the transition from wet back to dry. Especially if it came with a temperature change
As an adult it mostly doesn’t bother me anymore. There might have been some sort of spiritual journey in between that I can’t remember though.
Perfectly logical. Both showering and not showering is fine. It’s the transition which sucks, where you’re cold and naked without any warm water hitting you.
My hatred of taking a shower is the same hatred I have for leaving the shower. That’s it? I just don’t like that little short period in-between? I just rationalize other reasons? Fuck me.
Why do I get irritated when someone points out the weight my clothes have on my body?
Wait, I might be onto something. When I need to take a shower. I don’t tell myself to take a shower over and over. I just notice the weight of my clothes on my body and go take a shower to relieve that frustration.
I like the weight of my clothes, it feels nice.
I do to. But, I hate being too aware of it. If that makes sense.
You might be a sensation seeker while the person you are responding to might be a sensation avoider. Different sensory profiles.
What does this have to do with ADHD?
People with ADHD tend to struggle with showers because of transitions and sensory issues. Most of us find this meme quite relatable.
Aw, okay. Thanks for answering. It’s amazing how often the symptoms for ADHD and autism are interchangeable. I’ve always just hated myself and all my autistic traits so I assumed all these quirks were just present because that’s who I am. It’s interesting to find out how many of them come from something I have no control over.
There’s also a lot of overlap between ADHD/autism and asexuality, and asexual people tend to take long showers because of the warmth we’re not getting through physical contact.
You are right, there is a ton of overlap. It’s mind-boggling to me that before 2013 in the U.S. you couldn’t even diagnose ADHD and autism together - they would rule each other out. Now we know better.
Really?! That’s crazy. I was diagnosed with ADD as a child but I wasn’t diagnosed with autism until I was 28. Growing up with undiagnosed autism in the US was awful. I was always high masking, and I thought that explained why I wasn’t diagnosed with ASD but maybe it was because of the ADD diagnosis.
Backwards ass country. This was in the 90s so I hope this shit has improved since then.
Slips and breaks skull:
“Hello darkness my old friend…”
It seems that hygiene was my end
A bar of soap softly creeping
Now I lie here with my head leaking
I think about this meme all the time. It actually helps me keeping this “cognitive bias” or whatever you call it, in mind because it helps me get into the shower to begin with.
Gosh this is me everytime, especially when the shower was only 5m but I spent 30m processing the decision.
The grass is always greener
This is more like grass is always browner
Good point!
Nightly battles of self hahaha
Yeah, until the hot water runs out
The opposite is an issue as well. You never have to leave if the hot never ends. Here pretty much all houses in cities have direct heat from network so no boilers.
Dry world is also so cold.
Or toasty warm. Nobody likes a muggy day, but a dry heat ain’t that bad.
I like muggy. I hate desert heat.
Fight me. ;)
The worst is when you take a hot shower and immediately begin sweating when you get out because it’s hot and muggy in the house.
Honestly one of the worst feelings a human can experience, I’m pretty sure.
Heh, I’d hoped that installing a rain shower head w/ a handheld would’ve inspired showers on the reg… but, I forget that too, it seems. Maybe leaving the curtain on the other side’d help remind me that it’s a cozy, re-centering, paid-for amenity. 😅🤞🏼
(prop mgmt’s lucky I don’t take baths, so I’ve got some wiggle room, I figure.)
It activates the ancient amphibians in us
