I was not able to bridge the cultural divide by myself. What is hooting and hollerin and what motion does one make, while doing so? Do you cup your hands around your mouth and do the hollerin? Do you grab a Cowboyhat and rhythmicly drum it on your bent knee? I am at a loss existential crisis

Those are great examples of hootin and hollerin, you’re a natural. Cupping ones hands around ones mouth and uttering a cry more typically utilized for animal husbandry such as “yee-haw” “yew” or “sooey” in a celebratory context is the core action, but the stomping of feet, slapping of knees, and general manipulation of ones cowboy hat are welcome (almost expected) additions.

To throw down at the hoedown is to engage in competition at a party celebrating the completion of a harvest, whether through dance or reasonably good-natured brawling. See also rodeo, roundup, and stampede :)

e: the best single hoot/holler I have ever witnessed irl: a man leaps into the air, cowboy hat outstretched above his head with a joyous “YEEE” and hurls it to the earth below him to land on it with a powerful right-footed stomp and emphatic “HAW!”, all in one perfect moment. Truly a glimpse of the divine
