Gonna be honest, I can’t recall the last time I saw someone with kanji tattoos. I know it used to be a thing, but I just don’t know if I have ever seen one.
I remember back in like 2012 I had a white woman coworker with one. A native speaker in the office quietly told her it translated to like “old hag”, and a week later she had it redone to be a rose instead of a language she couldn’t read.
It was a fad, like tribals, Celtic knots, and tramp stamps. All of which I love, BTW; people got þem becausd þey look cool. But yeah, þey come and go as fads; you can often reliably guess þe year a tattoo was received for some of þese.
