Establishing a daily routine really helped me out. The power of will isn’t reliable, but habits are strong - you are what you’ve used to do on daily basis. Ten push-ups are better than no push-ups at all, but in a while, it gonna be twenty and thirty. When I started to use time/task trackers (super-productivity in my case, since its FOSS and have features for ADHD), it gave the feeling of continuous progress: do a small thing, check the box, move to the next one, and you are doing well!
doing things helps
Hard to do things when you don’t have the means of doing them, and those means are locked behind the assumption you already have the means of being able to do things. Society is a giant catch-22.
There’s nothing wrong with us - it’s the rest of the world that’s too severely fucked up to deal with. When you’re not a control-freak bully, it’s hard to be motivated in the face of all that hopelessness.
I mean, I get the sentiment. But after decades of dealing with it I’m pretty sure ADHD sucks any way and I’d like a refund. Nobody should have to deal with this crap.
I agree with both of you, actually:
ADHD sucks big floppy donkey dick, but the way society tends to be set up to fit one way of living (which is mostly incompatible with ADHD) makes it MUCH worse than it has to be!
Do nothing / Overwhelmed by stuff that needs doing.
I have playlists devoted to getting shit done.
I have one for early mornings called “Let’s Get Stressed” that has really fast pace stressful music like ‘Savages’ by The Handsome Devil
Another for cleaning which is a bunch of Disney songs alongside songs like ‘DO SOMETHING’ by Akira the Don
Maybe not for eveyone but for me that is a top tip.
Its because you’re under stimulated. If you dont do anything, you’re body desires movement
But I’m simultaneously restless and don’t want to do anything!
That’s where you’re wrong: my ADHD and anxiety combo means that my brain is always overstimulated by constant worries and distractions even when it looks from the outside like I’m doing nothing

Under stimulated by external stimuli that can keep internal processes occupied/satisfied. That lack of stimulation allows those internal processes, which crave stimulation, to begin stimulating themselves subconsciously which it begins to run rampant, as internal imagination has no bounds or limitations to prevent illogical feedback loops.
They aren’t wrong.
Learning how to live with that helps more than victimizing yourself
I know. That’s why I’ve been working on exactly that ever since I first got diagnosed with ADHD over two decades ago.
Just because I’m better at coping than I used to be doesn’t mean that I don’t still have to use many of my daily spoons just to get to where neurotypicals start.
