so my friends use snap (im not the biggest fan but it looks fun enough) and i want to use it too to yk yeah yk like 🤫 but im kinda concerned about privacy type shii 🥀 i was considering putting the official app on a work profile, but i thought that it would be good to get a third party client anyway
EDIT: ouu shii im getting mass downvoted but pretty understandable 🥹
Third party apps haven’t been a thing for a while, people were saving snaps without notifying the user who sent the pictures, resulting in the whole thing going against their purpose (and why they got popular - mostly sending nudes because they disappeared).
So they cracked down pretty hard.
In terms of privacy, assume nothing on the platform is private.
aw man well thanks for telling me
It’s proprietary software, they only have an APi for marketing related requests and you’re unlikely to find someone spending time reverse engineering the application.
If you use* an XMPP client like Jabber, Prosody, or Snikket, I believe you can set do not keep messages on server and they expire. However, I don’t think they expire once viewed. Maybe like 24hr.
Unless you’re looking for a private front end or something like a 3rd party client? Snap blocked those years ago when people figured out how* to screenshot without alerting the sender.
Fixed spelling errors
aw man so they dont exist anymore?
Following for interest. It’s the most sketchy social media app I linger on to just to keep in touch with a small handful of folks. It’d be nice to find an alternative client. Last I checked I don’t think there are any revanced/morphe patches for it, though I should check that again.
i mean i dont need it but stories and the filters and stuff are really skibidi sigma rizzler ohio yk 😁
What
high tech opsec stuff, you wouldnt understand 🙄🙄
If you want people to take your requests for support seriously then you shouldn’t be using ambiguous wording. Be clear, be concise.
i am tho, im just annoying
Those indeed can be fun but be aware they’re almost assuredly doing facial recognition on their users, and the whole system works by always retrieving the files themselves from a remote server, I’m fairly sure they don’t even cache on your phone (I could be wrong there, though). It’s really up to you if you think it’s all fun enough and worth having fun socializing with your friends with the risk of lack of privacy in that respect. Maybe you can keep it to a minimum of anything important being talked about? Unless you have a major reason to worry about being targeted, most people can probably safely dip in just for a handful of throwaway conversations with friends.
Sorry other folk don’t read modern slang.
