‘would like’, my dude you’re the boss, just make it happen?
That comes down to licensing and contracts with BattleTech, the company that owns to IP. Cant just make it happen
BattleTech, the company that owns to IP.
BattleTech is the IP, its not a company. Topps is the current owner of the BattleTech IP.
Well, things aren’t always this simple. Theoretically, he can just ask some team to make one, but I think finding the right match is important with these things. And maybe he has a few teams in his mind that can tackle this, but they could have a pipeline that can’t be disturbed right now.
Also as bbbbbbbbbb (so many b’s!) said, there could be licensing issues too. But without knowing anything about the actual games, why not create your own MechWarrior like IP? Or would that be not as interesting for the fans?

Whats fucked is that we had a new IP (titanfall) that was fucked twice from the beginning by Xbox (Thanks to Don Matrick) and then the second game was dropped in between the biggest shooters, CoD and Battlefield plus a third around the corner IIRC
I haven’t played Titanfall yet, but have heard great things about it. Are they making a third game? I thought they abandoned it for Apex Legends.
Titanfall 2 is well worth playing for it’s campaign. It’s only a few hours long, but it’s a roller coaster and features some of the best level design in the 2010s.
I think latest was Titanfall 3 got canned for continued Apex development :(
Yeah, it’s on my wishlist. If you have seen my posts, it’s a running theme with me, too many games and too little time to play them 😀
One thing to note, TF2 multiplayer is currently fixed and operational, so people are playing again.
TF3 was in development but it wasnt canned, per se. It turned into Apex Legends as a form of "lets do something with what we have. They havent shut the door on a 3rd game. Last i read somewhere they were brainstorming about it while they have free time
Hmm… I just checked, I actually own TF2, would give it a go when I am finished with my current game.
Thanks for the heads up!
I agree with him.
MechAssault was a great way of bringing action based mecha combat to consoles without making mainstream players frustrated with learning the ten million HOTAS controls for a proper MechWarrior or Steel Battalion experience. Sure, MechAssault was watered down from the source material. But in the end, it was fun, and that’s all that really matters for a game.
Likely with the success of Armored Core bringing mecha back into the spotlight, I can understand him saying this. Mecha will have a small window to cash in on the major crowds. Usually mecha games are cursed to forever low playercounts, either because they release alongside huge games and get overshadowed, or people lose intered because its “too much of a simulator.” Or its like Gundam Evo and the publisher doesnt instantly see a 300% profit increase so they shut it down instead of actually correcting the problems.
I loved MechAssault, one of my favorites on the OG Xbox. But bring back Midtown Madness too!
When Phil Spencer’s Zynga ass came over to Xbox, I audibly laughed. Butevery time he opens his mouth he says something I like, and he’s literally done so much good for Xbox. Homie is literally the reason we have PSO2 in the west. Was it a huge hit or anything? Fuck no, but he brought more options here, because he was interested. My dude, I believe you. You make some good MechWarrior games and I will buy them.
Edit: I mixed two people up and have no idea what I am talking about.
Are you saying that he used to work at Zynga? I know Don Matrick left Xbox and joined Zynga but I’m pretty sure Phil has been at Microsoft for a few decades now, before Zynga was even a thing.
I had to Google it, but you’re absolutely right. It was some 10 years ago but I somehow got that reversed in my head. Nevermind!
