This Anti-
CommunismCapitalism Week, we are reminded of the devastating consequences of state control over human thought, creativity, and political expression, resulting in suffering, poverty, exploitation, violence, and misery for millions, and we renew our commitment to protect the sacred values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness from the chains of tyranny.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Are artcraft apps considered slop or they have potential?
12·2 days agoI mean I love that they are sticking it to Adobe but they are slop by nature. If it’s at least useful slop or if you should just use the actual open-source alternatives is debatable, I don’t have any talent with these programs anyway. I’d say learn the open-source alternatives but maybe try the artcraft stuff if you truly can’t do something in the open-source program, but that’s just my uneducated opinion.

Technology@lemmy.world•Motorola Signature 27 with GrapheneOS will cost €1.900English
242·2 days agoYeah no, even the 300-350€ (don’t remember it exactly anymore) I spent on my Pixel 9a were overpriced to me, I don’t even need half of the storage, RAM and CPU speed in here. We really need way less capable but equally as secure phones, who the fuck needs that much computing power to browse websites and write on Signal?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which school curriculum books are worth rereading as an adult?
1·4 days agoWe didn’t even read those, some other classes in our grade did, but our selection was absolutely horrible. I like reading, but I never actually finished the books in school since they were just horrendous.
I mean the infrastructure is there, but it’s never on time, sometimes just doesn’t drive at all, driving by car is usually cheaper and faster, the people are absolutely disgusting and so on. You are basically paying more just to have an unreliable and disgusting alternative. I’d love to use it more, but I don’t, I still just drive by car, it might as well not be there in the first place.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which school curriculum books are worth rereading as an adult?
10·4 days agoIn Germany not a single thing. We call ourselves “land of poets and thinkers” yet the books I had to read during my time in school only made most people despise books in general. What a joke.

Linux@lemmy.ml•SUSE Laying Off 10% Of Its Workforce Due To AI & Automation
8·4 days agoYeah, they would both be lying and admiting to vibecoding so idk how that would make it better
I feel like with Linux finally becoming not only close to as good but arguably better than Windows (I consider “as good as Windows” an insult at this point) switching to yet another OS entirely will only create more divide. Linux is going in a direction where some caution is definitely needed, but myself, I’ll stick to trying to make Linux better so more people will break free from these fucking corporations. I’ll definitely keep an eye on BSD tho, I can’t say I’m not interested.

Yeah, I noticed right away that it was ChatGPT instead of a shitty but authentic GIMP edit so I considered downvoting for half a second, but the message is so valid that I just upvoted. At least I HOPE that’s the reason why the people downvoted it, if anyone supports that guy, they should go to a mental hospital.
that was a rethorical question

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•[pics pleases for the sake of nostalgia] What were your favorite candies growing up?
2·13 days agoI still see them in stock from time to time and might even buy a pack here and there, but I can never remember their name. I literally searched for “alte quadratische kaubonbons” (old rectangular chewy candy) haha

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you do when you get at 3am and actually wake up wake up?
2·16 days agoHonestly, I try to get back to sleep for a few minutes and if that doesn’t work, I’ll just get up and start my day. Same happened today at 5am, currently 6am and I already updated my phone, read and replied to my e-mails, spent a few minutes here to read a little, it’s not that bad. My argument is that if I try to lay there I will unconciously make the bed a place where I feel frustrated. So I never lay there half awake or bedrot with my phone in the mornings as both of that will lead to me being unable to properly fall asleep in the evening as I will start hating going to bed. Currently I’m on my couch in a blanket, which isn’t far from bedrotting, but I’m not making the bed a place I resent by choosing to stay in there.

Technology@lemmy.world•Three reasons why "AI" is not conscious and perhaps never will beEnglish
1·16 days agoYeah it is, but that doesn’t make the concept of it any less valid. Conciousness is the moment when you can think about more than just what your senses tell you, it’s the awareness of internal and external experiences and how much you are aware of them are the levels of conciousness. You could call in as much of a human construct as the concept of time, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s describing something concrete. Just look up something like “levels of conciousness” and think about it a little, it really is such an interesting topic! Then again, by that definition, a good chunk of humans fall on the very lowest points of the scale. Again, not drawing any conclusions, this and my previous message are just to point out that this is deeper an more interesting than some people in this comment section make it out to be.
thanks, I hate it

Technology@lemmy.world•Three reasons why "AI" is not conscious and perhaps never will beEnglish
62·16 days agoWe have mapped a fruit fly brain and can make it play DOOM. I mean people don’t have much empathy for them in real life, but they do recognize it’s at least a living thing. Does that mean the 1:1 replica playing tetris is a living thing? Is it concious, both living or on a PC for that argument? If we scaled up the same technology and emulated a hamster’s brain 1:1 would that be considered concious? What about a human? Is it even fair to compare a fruit fly brain to an LLM? I’m not taking any stance here, I’m just saying it’s a super interesting topic. Cyberpunk 2077 explores that theory very well and I still have no answer as to what I think.
Yo why is that more metal than the other logos

For me I’ve never noticed these issues on my Pixel 9a, but I really only use it for basic stuff. Still, you are kinda right, I definitely feel like Android, even GrapheneOS, is super inefficient compared to my 8GB ThinkPad with my own Arch-based disto on it, the 8GB there definitely “feel like more” compared to my Pixel. Battery life is fantastic tho, I usually plug it in over night with 80% left, rarely 60% at most when I used it a bunch during the day.
