Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Great games you would recommend from before 1990?
5·2 months agoMost games from that era were arcade games or designed from an arcade mindset. They are designed to extract the maximum number of quarters from kids pockets as possible.

Technology@lemmy.world•What would stop you from switching to a flip phone (or dumbphone) in 2025?English
19·3 months agoYou may as well ask me to throw away me phone entirely. I don’t carry a smartphone to make phone calls. I hate phone calls.
95% of that is spam. And an old dumbphone won’t even have auto spam detection.
I use my phone to take pictures, send those pictures, look for restaurants, navigate to those restaurants, listen to music, etc.
So what you’re asking for is to make the part I hate about phones worse, while removing all the functions I actually use my phone for.
Some of the smaller 4k sets work as an XXL computer monitor
But for a living room tv, you seriously need space for a 120"+ set to actually see any benefit of 8k. Most people don’t even have the physical space for that

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do gamers actually like the look of gaming computers and accessories?
4·5 months agoI was into it when I was a teenager, then got over it quickly. This was before RGB programmable lighting was even available, you had to buy your own individual LEDs that didn’t change color.
Also this was the era where CGI anime girls and/or robofrogs were plastered on the GPU and cases had giant useless hunks of plastic to make it look like constipated Transformer so… in all honesty it’s probably gotten better.

Technology@lemmy.world•SpaceX's Starship blows up ahead of 10th test flightEnglish
342·6 months agoIt’s less that people are putting faith in Elon (sure, some fanatics might be), but it’s that everyone else is somehow even worse.
SpaceX is actually getting stuff to space, despite their prototypes blowing up. Hell, even if this Starship thing is a complete failure and never works, their existing rocket, the Falcon, is still far beyond any of the competition.
The SLS: $10 Billion and a decade late to develop a ship that recycles old Space shuttle parts, then costs $2-3 Billion per launch, and maybe can only launch one every 2 years.
ULA Vulcan: currently years late, still finding problems, and even after all that gets worked out, it can maybe do 6 launches a year?
SpaceX: 1-2 launches per week.
That’s not faith, that’s just facts. I would absolutely love to have somebody else step up and take SpaceX’s crown, but… there really isn’t anybody. Bezos’s Blue Origin may have the biggest chance, but they are more likely to act like ULA than SpaceX.

5·6 months agoThat technically wasn’t pineapple on a burger… It was a pineapple burger. As in, the slice of pineapple replaced the beef patty.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla odometer uses “predictive algorithms” to void warranty, lawsuit claimsEnglish
7·8 months agoYeah I’ll be honest, I surprised myself when I bought my EV and my odometer went up a whole lot faster than it used to
My previous car wasn’t easy on gas so I instinctively used it sparingly. With my EV I actually do drive a lot more and I’m volunteering to be the driver for group trips and stuff much more often…

I do love the idea of having a 10" tablet that fits into my pocket.
I’m still waiting for the tech to mature more, come down in price, and increase in durability though.
