No but I did watch the TOS episode Balance Of Terror after watching the associated SNW episode and I HIGHLY recommend it, it is great fun to watch one right after the other.
If I abruptly disappear, it isn’t because I don’t love you rather it’s because some jerk used me in his transporter experiment and now I’m stuc… transporter sound

WOOF WOOF WOOF
Binoculars. You will be traveling across lots of landscapes, stick a pair in the sidedoor of your car so if you stumble across a nice vista or see a cool animal you can get a better look!
I think my favorite part about this episode is any amount of excessive silliness or criticism of being too fan-servicey is completely obliterated by the very next episode which deals with the trauma and horror of war head on. It didn’t feel like whiplash either, which I think speaks to the fact that even though episode 7 was silly there were still very serious emotional beats like Boimler convincing Pike to have a birthday party so he can hang out with the people that love him.
I am upset they are cancelling Discovery, it had flaws but it is an awesome show with some amazing moments and a very diverse cast.
Seriously fuck discord
I think my problem with wesley is that he got such a preferential seat on the bridge of a massive ship that probably countless other people had worked their whole careers to get on. It feels unfair to all those people to put a kid on the bridge instead of an adult in the middle of their career.
Wesley as a character is fine! I know Whil Wheaton had a weird interaction with the fediverse and in my hazy memory of it I don’t really blame people’s reactions, but in his ready room show for star trek he honestly has been great. He seems like he really loves star trek.
The one thing is, “shut up wesley!” became an internet meme, and understandably I don’t think Wheaton finds that meme that funny after a couple of decades of hearing it. When the kneejerk reaction fans greet you with is to tell your character to shut up… when your character wasn’t a villain… but just kind of an awkward kid who really was never characterized as anything other than someone who just wanted people to like him… it just feels like punching down for no reason.
Let me be clear, I am a dog, I have paws and no thumbs, accessibility is super important to me!
jokes aside
You will find that you can change the theme startrek.website appears to you in. By default lemmy already has a couple loaded. We could easily add a special theme to this website that was fun and star trek themed that was opt-in for users, or at least easily opt-outable by going into the settings and changing the theme.
We have a fantastic freedom here to indulge in a very treky themed startrek.website while still making sure to value accessibility and flexibility for those that need it. Lemmy gives control to the user over which theme to choose to display startrek.website in (from the list of installed themes on the startrek.website server). That is one of the fun, but underappreciated aspects of fediverse software. You get to choose how everything looks!
On the note of making a lemmy theme focused on accessibility, I think the lemmy community would be more than thrilled if people created accessibility focused themes for startrek.website , other lemmy instances would surely benefit from that work too!
Again, this is just a fun idea that could only add to the community here, there is no danger in making it unaccessible.
Maybe we could just reward people with ferengi themed flair for donating on patreon? Then all other types of flair could be kept unrelated to money or ferengis and be rewarded for stuff that doesn’t require money :P
7/10 I think its get hated on very unfairly, though it has significant structural issues that keep it from being the best of star trek. Even still, anyone who says that it didn’t have the heart of star trek is wrong I think, if it wasn’t still there in some essential way we wouldn’t have gotten the rest of new star trek.
Also anyone who says the futuristic starship designs in discovery aren’t awesome are just wrong, sorry.
