Have you read The Tale of the Rose by his wife Consuelo? I haven’t, but maybe I should?

I always liked that line, “To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes.”
Wait, you like The Little Prince!? It’s one of my favorite books. I have one edition I bought a long time ago, and one newer nicer edition with better illustrations. The whole book is such a strong love letter to his wife when you think about it.
Sometimes, but not very often. I like it though. Wind and rain and everything. One time I was walking with a friend and it started raining, like just pouring down, and we became so wet that our clothes were soaked, just… holding as much water as they could, 100% wet through and through, and I remember her saying “I am so wet right now!” and that my mind was not yet corrupted enough with puns and wordplays to even register the double meaning of that and I just nodded and said “me too!”. What a fool I was. Or am. Do you think people change with time? I mean, fundamentally change? Or is it some part of us that just stays the same, even though it might have different expressions through the years?
Well, it’s not a fair comparison since the sky here in Sweden is currently just a boring blue, but it’s only 7.30pm so still full daylight.
If we have a nice sunset I’ll try to show a comparison, but you know, the colors are always less vibrant on my phone so, yes, not sure how to compare really :)
Sadly I’ve never been to either South America or Asia. Maybe if someone in Japan is reading this they can take a picture of the sky?
That looks really nice! Whenever I take a picture of the sky with my phone the colours never come out right, but this looks good.
This battle, yes. The wind was in the right direction so the blizzard was actually an advantage. But then, later, they decided to invade Russia in the fall, and found out that it’s quite cold and difficult.

8·7 days agoExactly. If it happened once, it’s now a thing that can happen. People still talk about guillotines, and even if nobody is planning on making or using one it’s a reminder of possibilities.

I can see how one can interpret it like that, but it’s not how I read what he said. I think the point he’s trying to make is that hardened security protects the user from attacks, yes, but their focus is to provide services that can be trusted not to attack the user. He said: “really hardened security stuff that could clearly be useful for executives, in the secret service, or whatever. That’s not our goal”
I mean, I use GrapheneOS on my phone, but do I personally need all the hardened security? Not really. It’s nice theoretically, but mainly I’m just happy the OS itself isn’t spying on me. I’m personally not very worried about an evil maid attack or state level spying.
What’s your favourite distro? As a chronic distrohopper I’m always curious about what people use and why.

5·2 months agoI agree, honesty is a good first step. So, given all this, should we focus on simply being the more attractive option? Or a combination of principles and convenience? If the good option is cheaper or more convenient, we wouldn’t strictly need principles and moral arguments. I’m just thinking of strategy here, it can feel good to be a righteous preacher, but what actually gets us the results we want?

11·2 months agoI think there is a fatigue. Morally, I can’t justify eating animal products, but I do eat cheese and drink milk. I should take the bus instead of driving, but sometimes I use my car out of convenience. Chocolate means exploiting workers in some country. Etc. People see the world burning and feel powerless.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How does Onlyfans models earn thousands and in some cases millions per month, meanwhile a lot of opensource developers earn less than 1000$ per month?English
1·2 months agoIs there perhaps an opportunity here for a hybrid model? OnlyFOSS? We could involve the unixsocks community, and either we subscribe to see them code (free) software, or, we pay with free code to get access to someone talking about mechanical keyboards and minimalist tiling wms etc. Or, there could be a platform like gofundme where projects could have wishlists of what they need, programmers can name a price, and people can fund it. There’s a risk that the “boring” parts get ignored though, like infrastructure maintenance or code review, in favor of flashy new features like quarter tiling in gnome or wobbly windows?

2·2 months agoOne reason can be if the involved apps don’t have unrestricted battery access. Then the OS will put the app to “sleep” when not used. Could be worth checking.

Luckily I know how to tame someone! I should be patient and sit down without saying anything a little distance from you in the grass, and every day I can try sitting a little bit closer.
