The state of Texas is being used to hide and smuggle migrants into the US and I hereby call on the Trump administration to secure our border by removing Texas.

This makes me think of a conversation between my wife and daughter a while back.

Daughter is angry with her BF and frustrated that he seems oblivious to that

Wife: “Oh honey, no. It doesn’t work like that. If I’m mad at your dad for something I just have to tell him. If he asks if I’m OK and I say, ‘I’m fine’, he takes that at face value. He’s very literal.”

Daughter: “Ugh. Doesn’t that frustrate you?”

Wife: “It was weird at first but once you get used to it it’s actually really nice. You just have to learn to talk to him.”

Me: “Wait, I did something right?”

Wife: “You do lots of things right babe.”

Yeah, I think she likes me.

I honestly don’t care if we choose permanent standard time or DST. Either one would be better than having to switch twice a year. I’ll even propose a compromise: we can try one for a year, try the other for the next year, and see which one works better.

Not doing either because we can’t agree on which one should be permanent seems like the worst option.

I saw a job posting the other day that had a hard requirement of 7+ years of experience with a specific IDE. It was phrased as an absolute must have.

That’s how you know an organization is totally clueless. TBF, not all IDE’s are created equal but it would be kind of like a construction foreman refusing to hire a anyone who didn’t have 7+ years of experience with DeWalt power tools.

Too bad he already got left behind. 🤷‍♂️

People, especially younger people, need to get on board with the idea of supporting quality journalism financially. The decline in traffic is concerning in and of itself but print journalism as an industry has been circling the drain for years because advertisers and subscribers have increasingly abandoned the medium. Good quality reporting is an art. One that LLM’s are wholly incapable of.

I recently cancelled my Office 365 subscription because I’m no longer willing to financially support Microsuck’s bullshit. It was hard too. There isn’t another groupware solution that works as well as Exchange. It was important enough for me to make the move despite that. I’m not completely cured of my Windows dependency yet but I’m working on it.

Next week, we will spend 3 days trying to get the product team to pick out a dress only for them to insist that the one that is way too small “will fit” and that the dev can just “alter it real quick and it will be fine.” Even despite loud protests from the dev team that they cannot alter it and it will not be fine.

Spoiler alert: it wasn’t fine.

I had a binder full of video CD’s because my laptop only had a CD-RW drive. It usually took two disks to hold an entire film.

I don’t have any money but I still do it.

Long time ago I had the benefit of spending a couple years in banking. Bankers have a very different attitude about money than most people since for a bank, money is the “product.”

The most valuable thing I learned from that experience was that in order to be in control of my finances, I had to have a clear understanding of what my money is “doing.” Just being able to get that insight has been enough to keep me relatively on top of my book keeping.
