You could argue that it’s a slightly clumsy metaphor, I guess, but suggesting that white supremacy is organized differently today than it was in the 20th century isn’t that far-fetched. The reference to gig economies is just illustrating sometime else (labor markets) that has very obviously reorganized in that same time frame.
