I guess both ‘identity’ and ‘heritage’ are doing a lot of heavy lifting.

And I know this is mostly pedantry, but there’re terms that actually do fit better. Like immigrants, settlers, etc.

My great grandad was from Sicily. I’m from Minnesota. I don’t have any heritage or identity that has much to do with Sicily. I do have heritage as the progeny of immigrants from Sicily. But not Sicily.

But the golden rule presents the flaw of self interests. The golden rule relies on you presuming others want to be treated the same as you.

You shouldn’t treat others as you’d like. You should treat others as they’d like.

Self is group, group is self.

Dog is cat

Water is dry

Up is down

But they’re not Irish or Cuban or Italian.

They’re Americans.

I think there’s a big difference between knowing your family’s history and drawing an identity from it.

As far as white/Caucasian Americans, I’d bet money it’s Germanic ancestry.

I recall reading that at one point in the 19th century, 52% of American newspapers were printed in German. And, you still find towns with German names from coast to coast. Anaheim California, Hamburg Minnesota, Berlin New Hampshire.

The paparazzi version of Zuck or Jobs is writing an article about some stupid thing they do, even potentially damaging behavior, and convincing the reader it’s evidence of brilliance.

They wear the same shit because they have no fashion sense. But it’s been spun as “I can’t waste any precious brain power on mundane decisions” which is such a load of BS. What it’s actually demonstrating is they’re both dunces, incapable of picking up basic social skills, unable to engage in basic social behavior, uninterested in exploring something simply for the sake of relating to others.

There’s all sorts of conclusions to draw.

But nope, the things you or you do daily well enough by glancing at others, and checking out a store or two is IS JUST TOO MENTALLY TAXING AND WASTING THEIR BRAIN JUICE

Neo liberal / laissez-faire applies to both major parties in the USA.

Although, it’s certainly becoming less so with the GOP than the Democrats. IE: bailouts for farmers affected by their own tariffs, mass deportations which will affect business, etc.

What if you showed us evidence for that actually working in any meaningful sense, in order to stop people enabling fascists?
