  • I love Biscoff cookies, but had never had them outside of a snack on a plane either. First time I realized they sold them at stores was when my local Costco started carrying them in giant boxes, which is a little like being Sir Gallahad the Chaste, and stumbling into the castle Anthrax.

Aldi has a pretty goof knockoff version in normal size packages if you have problems with moderation 😉

But to answer your question, a long time ago, my wife and I did the “Love you”, “Love you too”, “Love you… three?” thing, and apparently got up to 5 before we decided it was silly. Many years later, “Love you five” is the normal response to “Love you”.

  • It’s also kind of a dumb meme because relating farm animals to the working class and farmers to the owner class seems to reinforce, rather than challenge, the idea that capitalism is natural. And it implies that the working class is too small-minded to manage the means of production, because of course the idea of a donkey running a farm is absurd.

It honestly smells kinda trollish in that regard.

Yeah, Energy + Money needs to be like your first 5 years out of university, assuming you landed a good job. Most of my adult life has felt like a full money bar, but empty time and energy.

Here’s to getting old I guess, so at least I can have some time again! 🍻

  • I can only speak for myself, but there are plenty of times when the plans sound great in theory, a few days/weeks ahead of the thing. But then when the thing is imminent, that excitement turns to anxiety. It usually has nothing to do with not wanting to do the thing or see the people, but some more gut-level aversion to having your time pre-committed on a day where your body feels the need to just chill or recharge your social battery.

    I think what happened is:

-Initially it was terrible, but it was not imposed on you, so you just ignored it and kept typing as if it weren’t even there, unless you legit could not figure out how to spell a word.

-Then it got better and gave decent suggestions occasionally, so people started integrating into their typing workflow as an assistant to quickly complete common words, or to figure out longer/more complex words.

-Somewhere along the way it began to impose itself on your typing to the point where it was expected that you would accept its suggestions the majority of the time. So even if it’s right 98% of the time, having to manually fight with it every other sentence is a MAJOR hassle

As a simple illustration of the last point, I remember the default behavior was that if you started to backspace an autocorrected word, the system assumed it got it wrong and let you fix it. Now the default behavior is to ignore you and keep autocorrecting until you tap a special key to insist you know what you are doing (at least on my Samsung phone)

  • I agree, but at the same time, I wouldn’t give up having the contrast between seasons for anything. You need that 92 degrees with 80% humidity to really appreciate the cool down after a thunderstorm. And my absolute favorite time of year is that first chilly week in September that let’s you know the heat is behind you–but the frigid cold is on the way.

All things in balance and moderation…
