I swear to god everyone needs to have their phone taken away all at once, for a month. Especially the left. We need to learn how to stop having stupid fucking arguments.

I feel like it’s because women don’t yet have the option to get cybernetic implants. They can’t hack the servers of the Palantir corp with a thought or jump the distance of a football field so they have to make do with lip collagen or whatever. Sad really.
I’d really appreciate it if Bernie and co would go whole hog. 50% is a half measure, whereas proposing full nationalization would be more respected on a world stage and probably in congress.

1·27 days agoThey’re not irreconcilable when you read them, lol. I’m saying you have a choice between two options, but one is guaranteed not to work (trying to get rid of AI).
I don’t know how to seize AI, but I imagine you’d have to break the law to some extent. Maybe get comfortable with that, for starters.

1·27 days agoIf you want to try to get rid of it, I can’t stop you. I’m unaware of an example of that ever working, though. I think it’s better to seize that tech from the people who would likely use it to make people’s lives worse.
This works. It’s like watching an exorcism. I don’t have a lot of achievements in my life, but this was a proud moment.

American justice isn’t a guarantee, and until political action comes back into style we can’t expect good outcomes.

If you’re talking about a specific product of AI (“art” for example), you might want to make that clearer. If you’re talking about AI in general, you’re treating this one thing like it’s a reason to try turning back the clock.
The rational thing to do would be getting politically involved to get AI out of corporate ownership.

Technology@lemmy.world•Meta Is Dying. It’s About Time.English
284·2 months agoIs “dying” the right word? They’re struggling, but I won’t be surprised if this administration or the next bails Meta out, since fb and insta are essentially public services for a lot of people, as much as I hate that. The smart thing for the fed government to do is to nationalize Meta’s platforms.

I didn’t mean to imply that liberalism and conservativism are completely indistinguishable, but rather that conservative thought generally represents the right wing of liberalism in the west. Sorry if this was unclear.
This omits what an earlier comment pointed out: that your typical MAGA/MAGA-adjacent “conservative” public figure is essentially fascist.
Chef’s kiss emoji on this one. Absolute legend.

Agreed. I distro-hopped for months before settling on Void. It took a while for me to figure out (with help from the internet) that systemd was causing a lot of the problems I was having. It’s been smooth sailing since I found Void and I’ve never been happier with an OS.
It really isn’t difficult to install or use, and I think experienced users would probably appreciate it as much as I do. It does what you tell it to, out of the box. Nothing more, nothing less.
