  • Gonna be honest, anyone else tried of how writers romanticize reading? Maybe its because I grew more cynical in my age. Maybe its because I am more aware than ever, of the publishing industries faults. Maybe its just colonialism.

I have tried looking fiction stories written in my world setting, but they all suck, one way or another. The only real dose of real people’s live I get is from non-fiction and let me tell you, you are likely to even found ebooks of those, let alone a traditional hardcover book.

Also, j am from a culture that to this day, still realize on oral story telling.

  • Its like we are back where we started about personal responsibility. You are being told, that you personally, are responsible for boiling the oceans. It all the same shit companies pushed about climate change as an individual’s problem.

Like driving a car isn’t a sin. Some people are assholes and reckless with them. Some relay too much on them, but a lot of people need them for basis needs.

All to say, thank you, that means a lot to me. I have been dealing with a lot the past few years. I dont need to feel more like a failure because I prioritied my health but don’t have resources to seek professional help.

  • I lived in India(in what at the time, was called Hyderabad) for a while, as a foreign Arab. Most of the curriculum was in English, with both Telugu(the official language) and Hindu language subjects. I hated it.

Coming from an Arab country where the most English we were taught was the ABCs, and then being told I had to juggle 3 entirely new language. I wasn’t even exempt from it. I would alternative from getting 61 out 75 in a hindui exam to falling the class, depending on if the teacher let’s me cheat.

I couldn’t even tell you what letters I was writing, I just drew them as a I saw them. My dad even forced me to watch Hindi cartoons in the hopes I will magically pick it up. For a while, I even had a Telugu teacher teaching me the alphabets. None of it stuck.

Honestly that period of my life was really damaging. I left India with full English and not a hint of Arabic. Coming back to the Arab world, to even get to the point of conversing with people again took years, and I still don’t know how to read or write beyond a first graders level. Reading still gives me a headache.
