How exactly is fighting against a mental illness going to solve anything? The majority of cases right now, Epstein, et all, are rapists not pedophiles in that context.
Pedophilia isn’t going to magically dissapear, alas it should be less scrutinised such that those who are I’ll are helped. Rape is a crime which should be fighted against, an illness is not a crime.
Marriage on its own is a problematic concept. The problems with child and essentially teen marriage are the tip of the iceberg.
It is the case where thousands of people past the common age are still being abused. And even within countries where the children’s rights have been ratified, those individuals are yet again prone to abuse when they reach the arbitrary number which is the common age.

Not to be pedantic, but make up your mind here. A child is physically unable to drive nor do anything that requires complex thought. A teenager is not a child, both by definition and by physical aspect. This is essentially ageism, by infantilizing teenagers, including your past self. Especially, since you’re correlating adulthood to that particular time period later on.
I agree, we shouldn’t be painting false pictures like this. The hard truth is that being an adult is objectively better, no matter what experiences you had during childhood or teenhood.
The thing is, romanticizing lack of rights is what truly is the problem here, this isn’t focused on the age - but the lack of control. Its usually this aspect which is included in these “childhood romanticism” posts. Age relation is just the consequence for this lack of rights.
Ultimately, autonomy should exist for all people - no matter the age. This is particularly important for teenagers which seem to be constantly ignored within society. Failing to understand this is what will lead to another “Australia style” blanket ban.
The thing about these comparisons is they are usually one-way, disregarding some of the more important aspects within the current situations.
They are infantilising people by making excuses that this is for the children. Teenagers may also be under 18, yet they don’t seem to care - they’re lumped right in with clueless children.
Teenagers are also people, and are closer to adults where they have their needs and wants. This goes against their safety, by duming them down. Its only a while since theyre going to consider under 25s as children as well - “for the peoples own good”.
The additional problem with that is straight up discrimination. We’re replacing a predatory system with another discriminatory system. It is essentially another path that leads to the same thing. Fighting fascism with fascism.
There is nothing that’s “needed”. Its an OS not some demonic construct. It should also be noted that teens will be impacted in it as well - all minors. All this age gating, discriminatory behaviour is eating us alive. Age verification should not exist at all.
There is absolutely no reason for an OS to know a users age. At this point it is certain that they can escalate this into including gender or even race.
The children or even the teens have no meaning in this law - they are simply used as sugarcoating for the cyanide pill that’s aimed at the populace.

Even if op’s case was satirical, it is quite ageist honestly. It is the difference between freedom and submission. Such outdated statements about increasing the common age is just a fascist disguise - minors which includes teens have less and less rights just because the belief that children shall be protected by bans is acceptable.
If people cared about “the children” they wouldn’t let them on the Internet until they were 21.

Protecting children comes in hand with protecting humanity. The sole existence of predatory algorithms, and other shit makes age meaningless.
You have a point; however, it is important to balance out the skills which are technology enabled and those that are physical. In an educational system IT would be a subject dedicated for this kind of thing.
Children, teenagers and others should absolutely be prepared for the digital world. But that means having a balanced curriculum that enables the usage of devices if so desired. Of course, that also means they should be prepared for analog life as handwriting for example, is a translational skill that is essential.
Just like everything in life, uncooperation means the system is broken in some way. This is not about being assertive enough so that children, teenagers or adult students will have to live off the current tyrrany - but realising that this system is designed to encourage this.
The students no matter the age know best; and in this case their word, that AI has no place in their education, should be obeyed by the ones truly ignorant of the educational system.
This is how political cleansing begins. Once the system is turned on, voting for anything slightly left will cast you as a criminal of the state.
Discord and github are the two platforms barely anyone dares to speak about. The Foss community barely mentions the usage of such platforms, despite nearly all of projects use discord as the support line.
It is really such a shame, since those projects make a significant contribution to open source software in one area. but just shits itself in the other.
Like all the previous fascist waves, they all centre around discrimination. It is about taking advantage of the societies inherent discriminatory behavior, in the past this was mainly racism - in this case however, its ageism.
It is the fact that anyone young is treated as a subclass citizen or in fact not even a person. ID laws are examples of fascist unjust laws which consequently invalidate the freedom and speech of young people. Our society rewards infantilization of others, and it shows how truly ignorant and adulcentrist we all are.
Finally, I don’t believe all of mankind will look back, as all the cases with fascism is “ignorance is strength”, so tracing the problem back to our societal ageism and discrimination will only be done by a select bunch.
