Fine crochet cotton comes in a large variety of colours and many of them can be quite bright.

Diamond yarns Cléa (and their fine knitting weight cotton Anne) have always had colours like that, including variegated versions. Both of these are made by Circulo in Brazil.

Cléa colours can be found on this distributors page. The ‘Citrus Green’ looks very much like the photo. There is also a high-res Lemon and at least 3 different high res orange to red varieties.

I used to knit and crochet a lot with the fingering weight Anne. I was able to ask a local yarn store to bring in additional colours that I chose as long as I would buy enough of the bag of balls.

Other mercerized cottons for crochet have interesting colours and shiny finishes as well.

We picked up 3 copies of Resurgence the evening of the 14th from Canada.

We’ve tried most of them over time.

Star Trek Resurgence has consistently excellent reviews. It’s about a 25 hour role play where the player makes choices for two different crew - a senior bridge officer and an NCO in engineering. It’s well done and one of our teens and I are enjoying it a lot. Great value for the sale price. My patience on this one was reinforced by its initial release being exclusive to Epic - but on Steam and on sale it’s worth it.

Bridge Crew is an older game. I have had it for a couple of years, and took advantage of the sale to pick up copies for each of our kids Steam accounts. One of them got really into it right away.

Timelines is also older. It held their interest for a bit in middle school but doesn’t seem to be one of the better tie-ins.

Star Trek Online is a long running massively multiplayer game that starts out free but then can cost a lot for in-game purchases. One of our teens is into it, and got fairly far without purchasing much, but the Steam sale is a good opportunity for them to buy things they’ve had on their wish list.

As a parent, I find these better than the endless number of Star Wars mods on Roblox that one of ours got into for a while.

Yes, front side of the stiches only will make a significant difference, and a looser fabric.

But it’s also true that as we become more seasoned at crochet our tension will change. If you’re too tight or too loose, definitely do another test swatch with a different hook-size.

Last, while the measurements are for a 4x4” swatch, you really have to have a bigger square to get a true measurement of the tension. The edges do affect things. That’s why, I always go for a 6x6” swatch and measure inside of that.

Google is wrong. Aran is a thicker yarn on average. Worsted is between DK and Aran.

Suggest that the OP look through their sizes to see what UK yarns fall under ‘worsted.’

A worsted is a bit finer than an Aran, heavier than a DK.

Knitting with worsted normally gives 20 stitches per 10 cm/4in in stocking stitch. Aran would give 18, DK 22.

With crochet, the hook size and stitch type will make a huge difference. If you use the stated hook with a worsted instead of an Aran weight you’ll have a more open fabric. That may be what you want, especially with a cotton.

Best advice to give is to do a sample of at least 15 by 15 cm / 6 x 6 inches. That will give you a benchmark of the stitch size, the amount of yarn used and the stiffness or drape of the fabric you’re creating.

Looks interesting, and an interesting way to work with nuts. Always looking for other GF options and I do use almond flour in a lot of recipes.

That said, while can understand not tolerating gluten free grains such as millet, teff, sorghum, rice or corn, I’m not sure why there aren’t other flours and starches you can work with.

I’m having a hard time understanding why an intolerance would also extend to tubers (potato flour & starch; manioc - cassava flour & tapioca flour; sweet potato flour; arrowroot starch); flower seeds (buckwheat/sarrasin flour) or legumes (Romano, fava or chickpea flour) but not nuts.

Got to admit - my first thought was that it looked somewhat indecent.

Startide Rising is the best of them all.

The later books were deeply marred by Brin’s giving into pressure from his editors to centre them on a group of adolescent males of diverse species because his publisher was of the view that the average scientific fiction reader was a 14 year old male. Brin has written about this and how difficult it was for him to write outside his natural quite adult style. His fantastic characters from Startide Rising are pushed into the background and only get to step forward and shine again at the very end.

Love the work on the shell. It really raises it to another level.

I was really impressed by that. Really felt it belonged on a cinematic feature.

We don’t know what be developed or not for the 25th century, but getting a new show developed and greenlit by Paramount is a long haul, and if they don’t like the initial draft pilots, they’ll keep at it.

Starfleet Academy has been in development as a show since at least 2018, with several changes of leadership in the team of creators. The original idea goes back decades to Harve Bennett. It’s finally got through the maze, let’s cheer that.

So, even if the senior executives are open and enthusiastic about an Enterprise G show:

• don’t expect a formal greenlight announcement in less than a year after Picard S3’s finale (which is how long it took for SNW) and then another year to 18 months for production and post;

• don’t assume that there won’t be major reworkings and/or changes in prospective showrunners from initial indications (as there was with Michelle Yeoh’s S31 which also changed showrunners),

Here’s some positive points towards Starfleet Academy

• most fans were super sceptical about both Lower Decks & Prodigy but they are both well loved across generations;

• “reopening the Academy after a hundred years” strongly implies this is in the 32nd century, post Burn, with a cast of largely new characters. Yes, we may see Tilly, some of the Discovery officers or (hopefully) David Cronenberg back as the mysterious Kovich, but that won’t be the principal cast of cadets;

• the EP and coshowrunner Noga Landau was a senior writer with Henry Alfonso Myers on The Magicians. Yes, she took over running Nancy Drew for CBS Studios for the CW, but that was better rated when she did, and better than the usual CW teen targeted shows.

• the other creator, and writer of the greenlit pilot was the head writer of the thriller Absentia (which has good ratings)

• Tawny Newsome is a writer in the writers room.

So new time period, new characters, new team that has done good work for the target demographic. I’m hopeful.

Space-themed media saturation? It’s an entire genre.

It’s not going to be a 24th or 25th century show… but as others have said, perhaps Boothby was a near immortal like Pelia or Guinan.

Both are established and solid Treklit authors.

I find it interesting that Simon & Schuster is back to contracting new tie-in novels within the existing timeline of classic Trek shows.

Answering myself - as I ordered this and now have my own copy.

Titanbooks is being as non-transparent as possible.

— the publication details on the back of the title page do not mention any of the stories having been previously published in the magazine.

However, the typesetting and layout is exactly that as in the magazine.

One would have to know a particular story from a particular magazine issue to confirm whether it was previously published.
