Technology@lemmy.world•Used EV sales spike alongside gas pricesEnglish
6·11 days agoPeople whose car died at the worst time (because my personal situation) but also at the best time (because of the Iran war / oil situation). We really needed a new car fast and before our old car really broke down we were looking at either a hybrid or EV version of a certain car. The attack on Iran and its ripple effects simply tipped the balance towards the EV. I knew this bs wasn’t going to go away in a few days but we were fast enough to get one for the price it was before the war. I was already really looking forward to driving oil-free, so I think it’s been a good decision. No debt either.
A series of unfortunate events

Technology@lemmy.world•America’s Largest Public Hospital System Says AI Could Replace RadiologistsEnglish
4·14 days agoThat’s just in the USA. This will affect doctors worldwide.
That being said, the work load on radiologists has been increasing year over year, so we need something to help take it off. In the UK it can sometimes take 3 months to get a report on a scan.
Wait you’re a MAGA influencer or tech billionaire?
Nah then they won’t be carried away by a moonlight shadow
I will tell you why, it’s because the people who fuck around are not the same who find out. The tech billionaires and MAGA influencers who helped spread it will not find out. They are above law and above consequences and they don’t even believe that phrase anyway.
Only in the pea-sized brain of the low-life MAGA does that rule count. Ironically enough they are the exception who actually follow their own phrase – or not, because they’re probably too ignorant to connect the dots and actually find out.
I mean I did, but once you do, you’re Rick-rolled
See that is the capitalist idea that everything needs to have a capitalisable purpose. Yet a lot of progress comes from research that does not serve a direct purpose other than basic interest and the advancement of science.
Also, it’s a meme.
Alright you got me. Didn’t think I was gonna get Rick-rolled in 2026 but here we are…

11·29 days agoHow is it better than something like Vivaldi
That’s alright. Better stay away from ideas to ruin an entire city LOL
It’s the economy, stupid. So yes, it’s probably gas prices.
Yes, you’re mistaken. That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you.
None of these studies are done with a DIY set, they’re done at million-dollar laboratories by professionals. Two of these studies found exactly what I told you in the previous comment, that the bacteria became better equipped to deal with UV damage.
The second study is interesting, as they found a way to select the bacteria to produce the chemical of interest. But you won’t be able to do this with a DIY kit either.
And lastly, how are you going to determine whether you’re even on the right track? Do you have a whole bunch of rhesus monkeys that you can inoculate to see whether they die and infect each other?
Even then, you won’t be able to do that. CRISPR is a precision technique and you need exactly the right sequence and enzyme to make the alterations you want. You can’t get that in a starter kit.
You also can’t random bullshit go! your way with UV cause it will straight up kill bacteria and the ones that don’t die will just be more resistant to UV damage.
Stop watching the crazy stuff :)
Perhaps you’ve watched too much crazy stuff because there is no way you’re going to make a deadly and infectious virus with “a $15 CRISPR starting kit”.
You’re just as bad as them since you support it if we follow your line of thinking from the Israeli government to the kids at the festival. And even worse because you don’t even know what opinions they held, I do know yours. You don’t get to choose. Either both are true or neither.

Hasn’t Ms. Sun ever heard about that other thing that is out in the open? The sun?
