No that is a conspiracy I can get behind.

In an economic system that has striped people of self value, some will find their own in value that attacks said system. However in a really weird way. One that has them telling you Paul McCartney is dead and was replaced with someone who just happened to be as good if not better than the original McCartney?!

81·2 days agoIn Oz of all places, we love pineapple here! The question starts to become, what is Italian culture? What is culture itself?
Wheat flour for the base originated in the middle east, tomatoes are from South America. Every culture is a melting pot of other cultures. Stop clinging to the identity of a culture and just enjoy the fruit of this collaboration.
Pineapple on pizza, bring it! The Californian sushi roll is from Canada and Salmon in sushi comes from Norway. It is all just one big mix of the world, the world is a globe it has no boarders.
Don’t eat salmon, they deserve to live as well.

3·2 days agoTo be fair to the 1980’s, a Hercules video card in 1982 adjusted for inflation would only be about $1700. We are way beyond that point.
An original Macintosh 128K would set you back $8100 in today’s money, so I guess in that regard Apple hasn’t changed. ;)
I read this meme, FOR THE GLORY OF THE EMPIRE!

2·2 days agoI suspect if anyone is buying these is because of them needing to meet an existing strict spec. Not sure what that would be but it is a possibility.

3·2 days agoI hadn’t been keeping a close eye on pricing but was blown away the other day. The Nvidia RTX 5090 launched at $4090 here in Australia, that was already obscene. Nowadays almost 2 years later, you are lucky if you find one under $12,000!

1·2 days agoFor a while there, second hand mini desktops like the Lenovo/Optiplex’s could be picked up for about half the price of a new Pi5. Typically had equal RAM, loads of SSD storage and desktop class(ish) CPU perfomance, plus all the other benefits (Secureboot, x86 compatibility so you could run Windows if you wished). Only major thing missing was the GPIO connection.
But looking now the prices are increasing rapidly as they have been discovered. The cheap ones are typically striped of RAM and storage.
Debian the foundation of the modern world. Or at least we wish it was.
In all my years I have never seen a candidate that matches of with my ideals, but that didn’t mean I didn’t vote. You try to find the closest match and then nudge the needle a little closer to what you want even if it is compromised.
There may be some fundamentals underneath that are difficult to change but it does not mean that both sides are the same.

memes@lemmy.world•Seems like they worked fine for decades before the internet
21·5 days agoThat is because to be the most efficient they have to constantly adjust the deadzone temperature. Its not just monitoring but active control. This is based on local air temperature, humidity and stock levels. To be even more efficient they put a thousand fridges online so that a small team can do the work of a much larger local team.
So the real reason is that to increase profit margins, they consolidated lots of workers behind a few and did this via the internet. A common story the world over.

3·6 days agoSpot on! Youth should power and drive the future, the elders should avoid the pitfalls they made themselves.
Hmmm… yes, I will listen and act on this unquestioningly.
That’s cool, different tastes for different folk.
It was a few years back there is the group King Gizzard, the sub-reddit started to have a lot of tier lists for their albums because they had a decent back log by then and they spanned a wide range of genres. It was fascinating seeing how wildly different people ranked these albums. Some that many considered a classic would hit the D tier list on others. Very cool to see.
Some see Pink Floyd as S-tier, other could barely muster a D-tier. Just how it goes.
I will make a broader statement with the addictions. Try to minimize dependence in all its forms. Not just chemical, but social, physical and economical. Easy to say, difficult to do but it is worth it.
I will forever associate crunk with like 2 minute appearance of ‘The Crunk Clown’ on the show Flavor of Love.

Absolutely! This is the one part where I diverge from most vegans. I am not conceptually against meat, but I am completely against it in the context of the modern hyper exploitative system. And I suspect the indigenous folks that harvest salmon would be to.
The reason they have had to much issues with that over the years is because some bastard came in and decided to try and scrape the rivers clear of salmon because they could get $2 a head or whatever.
Alas, in the modern system, as soon as you put a dollar price on something, it no longer remains that thing. If you are paid $10 per tree cut-down, you see a forest and nothing but money. When a salmon can get you a dollar, you just seen dollar bills floating in the river. Money is a useful tool to allow trade to happen smoothly but at this extreme end is is the lubricant of ‘The machine’ and it will consume everything it can.
