  • I mean, every apologist and defender of capitalist apocalyptic hellscapes will have that view, sadly. So long as it makes them an extra buck it’s good for them, consequences to society or environment be damned.

    As an European who does advocate and see value in the use of AI, but not at any cost, I’ll take his opinion as a compliment. As they say, “I want AI to do my dishes while I create art, not for me to do the dishes while the AI produces insta-art”.

    And eventually if AI gets capitalistically out of hand and leads to many people in service-based economies to poverty and unhappiness we’re sure to see a revolution to restore balance, as many times in history when a few elites made things unbearable for the rest of the population. AI is here to serve humanity, that’s where the value is, not to serve only a select few.

    Goes to show how much this isn’t about Luigi, or even Brian Thompson. It’s about the elite sending a message to the other 99%. Think, even if their case against Luigi is rocky at best, all that matters is they can get him to pay for Brian, regardless of whether he did it or not, or where the evidence points.

    All that matters is that we the “peasants” get the underlying message:

    • If you kill/harm an elite they’ll chase you and make you pay with the full weight of their resources (and emphasis on “resources”, not necessarily “law”).
    • If you did not kill or harm an elite you’re still at risk, because then they’ll choose a “peasant” scapegoat to pay anyway.

    All that matters is that they get to take their pound of flesh, and that the “peasantry” gets discouraged to fight for their rights as the elite takes, and takes and takes.

    Which is why it’s so important that regardless of Luigi having done it or not, he should walk free unless there’s solid, undeniable evidence of him doing it, like an actual and verified non-deepfake video of the assassination with his clear face on it. And even then he must only face the consequences the law demands, and what others would face in his place for killing the everyday average Joe. The fact that the life lost was an elite should have no bearing on the consequences.

  • So… You take a prison which:

    • Generates $60M yearly from being currently a museum;
    • Needs serious rebuilding and modernization to even function at all;
    • Needs a way to be supplied with safe water, plus constant deliveries of all other necessities, likely by boat.

    And you get:

    • A prison which generates little to no revenue, while needing funds to be kept functioning.
    • Only has its name and somber history going in its favor, because “prisoners should be afraid of the historic haunted prison”.

    Yes. Brilliant idea, truly a Trump deal in all its glory, as we get to see how the casino-bankrupter’s mind works. Hopefully by the time the prison is ready Trump and his cronies get to be the first “tenants”. And whoever comes next declares the prison closed again and leaves them rotting there.

  • There shouldn’t be Luigis in the world. Not because what he did is wrong, but because there shouldn’t even be a reason to do it in the first place.

    I want a truly peaceful and equal world. But when we live in a world of “rules for thee but not for me” and where the elite is allowed to profit from the misery of the people, there might as well be no rules at all - we might as well live in chaos and anarchy.

    That’s what happens when in the same week you have someone shooting a CEO for preying on thousands of lives, and someone lighting other person on fire in the subway, in the same city, and yet justice application is very different for either case.

    Because if one of us isn’t equal, no one is. Luigi is just a natural balancing consequence to the abuse of the elite - and try as they may to make an example out of him, the more they do it the more people will be driven to sheer despair and insanity, having nothing else to lose.

    I don’t mind losing. So long as they don’t win and get away with it either. I might not get the world I long for, because sadly humanity has quite a few bad apples, but I won’t stand idly by while said bad apples get to live happily ever after in their debauchery at the cost of our lives either.
