1·1 month agoI might come across as an obsolete dinosaur (which I probably am) - but I really enjoyed the tracks from Hitman game series, especially Exploration from Hitman 2 : Silent Assasin, and then became a fan of anything composed by Jesper Kyd.
101·2 months agoEver since TV remote was invented, people don’t even lift their asses off the couch and walk over to the TV to change the channel. Unless a company adapts to changing tech landscape, they can be many things, but not a company for grown-ups.
I just read about this extension today. Seems interesting. The description says It’s supposedly doing more than just switching the UA.
21·4 months agoThe good thing is that Firefox has got some decent forks like Librewolf, which are worth exploring if one is okay with slightly delayed updates.
It was surprising to see this from Firefox, and even more unsettling was the fact that this was turned on by itself in my desktop firefox settings since the last update. So it was opt-out by default, while I expected this to be opt-in, just like their telemetry.
Not good. Nope.
Yep, someone thought of porting the awesome Freetube app to Android. It’s not as polished as NewPipe, but gets the job done. Especially at this time, it’s the only one that is working, having both a local API as well as option to use Invidious API.
I pulled the apk straight from their github page via Obtainium. You may want to give it a try.
Most Piped instances are also not working because they use NewPipe Extractor under the hood.
I have also temporarily switched to FreeTube for Android, because a few of the Invidious instances are still working fine.
The nice thing about the FOSS world is that it’s pretty easy to import subscriptions and other stuff from NewPipe to FreeTube.
I hope this YouTube fuckery is handled soon. I love NewPipe way more every time it successfully deals with the YT weirdos.

It says that Piped is affected as well. This is probably a dumb question from me, but I use NewPipe in my phone to access YT - and it did not cause any trouble yet. I heard that the Piped project also uses NewPipe Extractor under the hood (which basically scrapes YT website). So why would Piped break but not NewPipe ?

341·9 months agoLogically yes, downloading or a sharing a digital file is a “lost sale” - but as Aaron Swartz said - “lost sales” are also caused by Earthquakes, Libraries/DVD Rentals, Negative Yelp reviews, Market Competitors, and so on. Why just blame it on file sharing…

ABP has that stinky practice of marking ads as “acceptable” (basically those companies pay ABP to be on their “allowlist”).
As has already been mentioned - stop using ABP, and use uBO instead. It’s a lifesaver.

Someone mentioned Eternity, and I second that.
I have also lately been using Eternity - and the main reason is that Eternity is a fork of Infinity for Reddit, and Infinity was a complete app by its own merit - so although Eternity is not updated frequently, it is very unlikely that I will miss any essential feature in Eternity for Lemmy.

I do exactly the same. I always opt for the earliest free prime delivery available, even for just one item in my order.
Fuck their Amazon delivery day and No rush shipping. “Delivery in fewer trips to your home” ? I have exactly zero fucks to give - I need my stuff as early as possible as my prime membership will let me, even if at 4 AM in the morning, because I am freaking paying for it.
And “green for the environment” my ass - I know they don’t care about environment, and I don’t care about the gas tank of their delivery vans.
Clearly that’s what a human driver would do, but I guess those Rider Support Agents work for free, so why not fire the driver? /s
