In German it’s also Wespe, but in my local Austrian dialect it’s pronounced Wepsn. Very interesting, I didn’t know that shift had happened (or I guess not happened) elsewhere.

One word for you: DLP projectors

I wish you could try stuff beforehand in a quiet place to see if it’s gonna bother you with annoying quiet noises. Unfortunately that’s not really a thing. Luckily electronics has gotten better over time but a lot of stuff still does it, just usually less.

I get this with pretty much all perfumes, scented candles, tobacco smoke (oh god the tobacco smoke) and extinguished matches and candles.
With some people I wonder how they can exist with so much perfume poured over themselves that I can’t breathe while walking behind them. I just don’t understand.
An upside of being smell sensitive is that it helps with debugging electronics. Burnt parts smell very obvious, and I can even smell hot stuff like heatsinks.

His mind has to have been blown all along to think this way and be so disconnected.

The Google font, now without flex!
I’ve been pondering if one could make open source controllers to replace the “smarts” in these with something that actually just does the job, and even customizable. With different sensor addons/adapters for different makes and models.

I’m all for putting handshoe in english, myself.

Eiskasten is also a (very outdated) one.

I hibernate my work PC so it doesn’t auto update and close all my stuff. I’d like to do that on my own at the end of the week, tyvm
Also I get to softly kick the front every morning.

I do wonder how my copy of Word 2010 at my work is going to do this.

I know what you meant, but arguably this does make them the Paint Police.

There’s an important follow-up post. https://lina.sh/blog/cuii-gives-up

A bit offtopic about a pet peeve of mine, but this is why it’d be super nice if social media that end up getting screenshot had absolute timestamps. Thank you for letting us know.
Nah, I’m well aware that this is a symptom of climate change, hence my worry. I see reports that nordic countries get ridiculously hot as well. Weather everywhere is shifting around in unpredictable ways. You didn’t see me call it “global warming”, did you?
I just hate sweltering hot weather, so perversely I like the result of an autumny August, but this weather is very out of wack.
It’s funny because here in Austria right now in August I need my sweater in the morning. Very much not normal. (Not that I mind it being cool, but it’s worrying.)

Why yes my phone has both a CPU and a modem.

Modern LED bulbs tend to overdrive the LEDs to a point where they last about as long as incandescent bulbs in my experience. It also allows them to use fewer LEDs, driving cost down. They could last so much longer…
I do like to buy high power ones (100W equivalent ones), open them, and lower the drive current by increasing the driver shunt’s resistance. I haven’t had a single one of those fail. (Don’t do this unless you’re a professional, mains power stuff can be fatal!)
My cat wants to smell my morning coffee every time. She smells the milk, and even though she should know there’s disgusting burnt bean juice in it too she insists on checking it out anyway.
