Serious question. Why are some saying Barbie is woke?
Because it discusses (and mocks) patriarchy, portrays a matriarchy, talks about the struggles of being a woman in America, and has no male characters that aren’t effete, silly, and impotent.
It’s a great movie.
And it also displays what pressures patriarchy causes to men. Even matriarchy is shown as broken (and a metaphor for the reverse in our real world history)
Sure their matriarchy is also broken, but at least they overturned Citizens United and Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad Company. I’d take a bit of that.
They did all that in the Barbie movie?
They did all that in the first five minutes of the Barbie movie.
Well Alan kicked all the Ken 's asses…
