I wish they’d stop canceling shows immediately if they don’t have 90 billion people watching in the 1st week. Yeah I didn’t have time to get to your time traveling boat show (1899 I think it was called) the week you launched it, then I heard it got good reviews and then got shut down, so I never bothered watching because it was an aborted storyline. So many promising shows that maybe wouldn’t have been great but could’ve been at least worth watching axed after the 1st season or even half season.

Now they’ve got a rep for canceling everything-- how is that supposed to attract more customers?

They should do what kids cartoon networks have been doing for decades - run a new show for exactly three seasons, no more, no less. Be really upfront with creators that they’re going to get three seasons of ten episodes each. Do that for five years and viewers will come back because they’ll know shows will actually end. After that, they can start being more choosey about what they renew, but they need consumer confidence back first.

That boat show, made by the same people who made Dark, was pretty good. Think like LOTR’s first movie - it does wrap up, even if it had also meant to go onwards (and in this case did not).

If the concept intrigues you, do watch 1899. It stops on a cliffhanger but reveals enough to be worth your time. Shame it got cancelled.

“Just one question, can I make a Netflix show? I don’t know how to write or direct”

“Already got you signed up for 3 seasons”

“what if I do know how to write and direct, and people will love the show?”

“Best we can do is a single season and a swift cancellation”

Or worse, after a successful first season, enshittify the entire thing for the sake of moar profitz. Stranger Things…

Including one of its two cofounders. They agreed they they would use puppets but never CGI, and they said that they would remain pure to the storyline rather than “sell out” for the sake of profits.

But then season 1 was a success and one but not the other cofounder wanted moar monay, so as soon as the second season it had already begun to lose everything that it spent that first season building up.

The magic was gone, not entirely, but mostly, having been sacrificed for the sake of chasing profits “above all else”.

i hadn’t had a netflix sub in years, so when a buddy offered to add me to his sub, i pulled it up to see what was new.

a sea of garbage, littered with all the shows i liked many years ago being offered as “For You.” Yeah, I know they’re great shows. I watched them a bunch of times 5-15 years ago. And nothing since, other than, maybe, a season here and there of those shows I hadn’t seen.

Nothing made in the last several years even interested me enough to look at the trailer. It’s just 100% garbage, bespeckled with the long-ended (or cancelled) series that once made Netflix geat.

Like a Circuit City, right before they all closed down.

same here, my friend. canceled 2 or 3 years ago. i’ll pay for a month every now and then and end up endlessly scrolling through the wasteland after a single week.

They are guaranteed to cancel 3 Body Problem. I shouldn’t even get my hopes up. At least I’m not paying the shit sandwich creator monthly.

True. There’s also an animated series for the second book. Netflix should have turned the entire trilogy in to an animated series tbh. Would have saved them millions per episode and lowered the chance of it being cancelled, in my opinion.

I haven’t seen it and I won’t (D&D hurt me so) but I doubt they will cancel it anytime soon. The reviews are good and, I guess, the Chinese viewers like it. I think Netflix will make as many seasons as possible for international appeal.

Has anyone else noticed a huge drop in quality with anything made after the start of covid? The dialogue is awful and everything is so choppy. It’s like movies now are written by AI trained on bad fanfics gluing together a bunch of tiktoks. I’m not fancy. I like cheap, tacky crap, but most movies and TV from the last couple years have been unwatchable.

My kids got me one of them Netflix accounts for the year as a Christmas gift that site is so full of smuts I cannot believe but we did watch a movie on there we both like back in Febraurary it was the one with that blonde woman from the show we used to watch back 20 years ago and she was solving a crime but couldn’t do it on her own so this baby child help her see visions with a donkey and they end up figuring out it was that Barry guy. Anyway we much prefer Disney but don’t tell the kids.
