I actually think there was some real writing potential in depicting an edgelord poser who idolizes the trappings of a fascist past that he doesn’t even fully understand, especially in the Trump era.

But then, you could drive a Star Destroyer through the gap between potential and execution in the Star Wars sequels.

We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, and they said no. They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive.

I still can’t get over the fact that there is a whole ass star wars trilogy that was so forgettable that I couldn’t even say if the antagonist was alive or dead at the end. I read that sentence and I still am not sure about it.

Also, why would they care? After Palpatine and Chewie, it doesn’t seem like death means much in that universe.

Darth Maul getting cut in half and coming back through fan popularity… over his two lines in one movie.

Death has meant little since Obi Wan was able to keep coming back and providing advice and conversation. You’re not making good arguments against the sequels with stuff that Lucas already doubled down on.

He’s not saying he’s not willing to make the movie. He was on board, a pitch was made, it was shot down. He’s saying the movie won’t happen due to the higher-ups at Disney.

The sentiment is not “I’m not interested in doing that any more”, but “They don’t want to make the movie and there’s nothing I can do with it”.
