The tankies communities quickly collapse when challenged first Hexbear now Vegantheoryclub. It’s almost as if their foundation is weak.

    Wait, are you actually Beaver on an alt? Because if so, it is very uncool to secretly ban people just for downvoting vegan comments. And using alts to dodge the consequences of your actions or do vote manipulation sucks too. And also in the future please think about how it reflects on the community when doing things like banning admins, even when they are being a dipshit. At least give a good faith effort to talk it out. Although honestly that led to some nice reform for the instance so I guess I won’t hold that against you.

    The one thing that’s been a much worse experience on Lemmy than Reddit or other similar social media is being Vegan, it fucking sucks here. And the anti-vegan bullshit is everywhere on Lemmy, simply mentioning it often feels like you’ve committed a war crime based on the replies.

    To everyone who is part of that: you are shitty people who need to grow the fuck up.

      There was a very public spat that played out between some of the mods of a vegan community and the admins of an instance probably around a year ago now.

      Since then there’s been a lingering feeling of distrust and resentment between some vegans and the rest of the Lemmy user base. Trolls and instigators love to gaslight people from both sides into fighting which leads to further division.

      To everyone who is part of that: you are shitty people who need to grow the fuck up.

      While I tend to agree people love drama and Lemmy is an easy target for it since it’s still relatively small. They take pleasure seeing the shockwaves of these events ripple through the fediverse. Blocking them and refusing to engage with bad faith arguments (whatever your personal definition may be) is the best line of defense ATM IMO.

          When you go off the deep end they are all about the same. I get where you are coming from but I think extreme views are ultimately not rational.

            Extremism is relative. To a monarchist, representative democracy is extreme. To a traditionalist, women having rights is extreme. To a feudal lord, capitalism is extreme. To a slaver, abolitionism is extreme.

            Very often, ‘extreme’ views aren’t rational, true. But moderate views generally aren’t rational either. As General Sherman once opined, regarding why so many otherwise ordinary people blithely accepted slavery as a fact of life, even in the North, “Man is a creature of habit, not originality.”

            Anarchism, or libertarian socialism, is not particularly irrational inherently. I think it makes some vital miscalculations, but history shows that anarchism, in practice, can work. Maybe not wholly in the way of idealists’ dreams, but what ideology does? I simply disagree that it is the optimal path forward for human civilization.
