Copyright (and IP laws in general) is a means to capture parts of the market and is antithetical to producing a rich and vibrant culture. It artificially sequesters ideas away preventing a communal refinement and growth of those ideas. It’s commodifying nature corrupts creativity in pursuit of fiat.

I don’t like AI as a tool. It’s got a lot of problems, including it’s extortion of society’s creatives in pursuit of a diluted simulation of creativity–one which, as of yet, cannot produce something intrinsically new.

The solution to both of these is to remove the capitalist incentive and reprioritize society’s interests in the needs of the people. When creatives don’t have to rely on artificial limits of the market in order to stay alive and we can move to a system where creatives are free to create, not merely eek out moments of creativity between employ then they will be free to actually create–all of them, not just the lucky few. When the machines are decoupled from their own need to make money and are turned away from the simulacra factory toward covering essential, but boring tasks (and we’ve addressed the ecological disadvantages) then people will be further empowered to pursue creative interests.

Creativity should be bountiful and belong to society as a whole. It should not be a job–in part because we should build a future where jobs are optional. It should not be siloed into one mind for life plus 4 generations or trapped in an organization only to be checked out temporarily to boost profits.

The ball’s still in their court. They are welcome to change their mind, but they should conclude the immediate interaction. A “we have filled the position at this time. We’ll be in touch if anything changes.” message would be sufficient and easy to automate. They just don’t for … reasons.

Not remotely true. Having a job does not remove you from the job market. If I accept an offer for my 5th most desired position and a month later receive an offer for my 1st, I am well within my rights, means, and desire to just switch again.

Well then I’m still waiting for them to carryout their side of the bargain. I submitted an application and/or attended an interview and am waiting for them to make a decision. Obviously that ball’s not in my court otherwise I’d just tell them “I’m working here now!”

When I get a job, I do notify those that gave me an offer. If a company has already rejected me then of course I’m not emailing them back to say “yeah, well I’m rejecting you!”

All that reading at a uni level in grade school did for me was make me utterly surprised when we had to peer review papers my second year of uni and I’m gazing down 5 pages with no complete sentences, the only punctuation used is in the complete wrong way, and misspellings of words that I know are on every office program’s spell checker. Fast forward a few years and POTUS has the oratory skills of a fifth grader and I might lose my programming job because marketing and sales haven’t managed to sell the product in years (I work on an end user product for one of the largest companies in my field whose primary focus is enterprise b2b sdks; if end user continues at this pace there’s a chance they drop the whole division EOQ3).

Getting out of the jury box has got to be the absolute most absurd reason I’ve ever heard for wanting to relinquish citizenship.

It’s fine as a movie. It’s not overly “gamey” (like ready player one). Instead it uses video game tropes as a set dressing for what is ultimately a fairly anti capitalist narrative (sold to you by capitalists).

I initially considered loss, but the character count for each is wrong.

This is the strangest political compass I’ve seen.
