This is a poor take on how to deal with the tyranny of the majority, in my opinion. I wasn’t saying it necessarily applied here, and was only bringing it up as a caution against absolute democracy. Here’s a longer form example:

Say you have a software project that operates as an absolute democracy. Each and every new software feature that the developers work on is decided by a vote of all users and contributors to the project. For vote after vote, the feature “implement screen-reader support” is passed over for shinier and more exciting new features, after all the vast majority of voters don’t use a screen-reader.

Wouldn’t you say that it is fair if eventually the developers told the community “Nope, we’re going to implement screen-reader support as the next feature”? Or do you believe the blind users should have to fork the project and implement screen-reader support for themselves? After all, they’ve been “free” to do that the whole time.

There are absolutely viable forks/rewrites of the Lemmy backend. Sublinks was the one I was keeping an eye on, but progress seems to have slowed down significantly on that. It’s supposed to be a drop-in replacement for Lemmy that continues working with current apps.

I generally agree with your comment, but I wanted to point out that the tyranny of the majority can still be a major issue. For example, there are often times when a majority of people believe the opposite of what a small number of experts agree is the best course of action. You can see this in laws that suppress trans rights receiving wider public support, even when they go against medical best practices.

Honestly this just sounds like more conspiracy theory than fact. Remember Occam’s Razor, the simplest solution is usually correct.

Like don’t get me wrong, TikTok is absolutely an extension of soft power, and it’s likely that the Chinese government has access to the huge amount of data the platform collects. But I think anything beyond that is just not likely.

How did they “[get] played”? Like the poster you replied too said, it was a completely unforced error on their part. It feels like they tried to jump on the right-wing “China bad” bandwagon and it bit them in the arse.

It’s really not from where I’m sitting in Australia. The main difference between the two is that the US has far less centralised laws. So you do have states where trans rights are solid, but then you have states like Florida, which is far worse than China where trans rights are just not really talked about.

I’ve never encountered any of the issues you’ve talked about here, and every deck-verified game has worked on my Legion Go. Often better, as many “Playable” titles only have marks deducted for small text, which looks fine at 2560*1600.

As for the lesser used distro, I can understand where that creates issues. However, due to it’s immutability, Bazzite is a consistent target to support with no real variations in system packages.

Bazzite fixes all of those issues you mentioned in your third paragraph.

I’ll +1 their comment that it’s super newbie friendly, it’s the distro that finally got me to switch fulltime from Windows. It works well with NVIDIA, and you have the choice between KDE Plasma or GNOME when you download it :)

Why not use the “Install a Windows game from an executable” option in that same + menu?

Side note though, this would make games downloaded from SteamRIP easier to install under lutris for me, as they aren’t installers, and I’ve been using bottles to generate the prefix for me.
