I agree, sadly a government shutdown is actually pretty normal for the US now. What I meant by that line (off the rails) was that Schumer is acting like this is just normal politics, so letting Trump continue to shoot himself in the foot should work out for the Democrats. However, I’m not so sure, this doesn’t seem like a normal admin and things have been escalating. Schumersl’s strategy won’t work if things continue to escalate at their current rate.

I mean there are some obvious drawbacks to a shutdown:

• Easy for Republicans to point at democrats as the problem
• People may confuse layoffs or other impacts of cuts to the shut down rather than the Trump admin
• Less noise about all the terrible things the Trump admin is doing while shutdown takes the forefront

At the end of the day, it’s “maybe this will stop the Republicans from dismantling the entire federal government” vs “why stop your enemy from completely shooting themselves in the foot”

Personally I’m not sure which is better, but the wait and see game (that Schumer is playing) relies on things not going completely off the rails (and things seem pretty crazy right now).

Also, whether you see it as a plus or minus, windows wsl defaults to Ubuntu. So, msoft also seems to be somewhat invested in them long term.

That’s always been the issue with laws like this, just causes people to find worse things.

Banning alcohol lead to people dying from bootleg. Making drugs illegal lead to things like people huffing paint (maybe cost too).

I could get that at the grade school level, but at the university/college level those students are choosing the music classes. To be that disengaged for a course you picked is a bit different than a student who is forced to take a course.

That being said, if the course is a requirement that does change things a bit.

Some people have mentioned apple TV, for now that at least isn’t riddled with ads. Others have mentioned getting android sticks, but I’m not sure how smooth that process is (or how well they work with remotes).

I think the issue is they hit market saturation and haven’t been able to develop any real revenue streams beyond the sale of devices (which is one time cost while maintenance and development constantly drain them of any profit).

I suspect the increased enshitification is because they need other revenue streams. Just take a look at their stock price and it doesn’t paint a great picture for them.

Even if it was getting slim enough to run on consumer grade hardware it wouldn’t undercut the SaaS model.

I think the real thing, as others have mentioned, is that it’s not reliable enough and everywhere I’ve seen it’s been difficult to move the latest models past just being chatbots.

Haha, it is very similar, but I think robotron is a twin-stick shooter since you control movement and the shooting.

Its one of my favorite games though, my grandfather had the actual arcade cabinet.

To add to this, perfect is the enemy of good. You probably won’t do it as well as a professional, but having it done is better than not at all (since DIY is generally cheaper.

Also it could lead to a mutation. Not sure how robust the measles vaccine is, but technically possible to produce something new.

I wasn’t super thrilled about the idea myself, but with the ability to disable it I figured I’d give it a try.

Personally it’s a really cool feature that adds to the experience.

I mean we absolutely could call out their flaws too, someone with that much power/responsibility is going to do abhorrent things (drone strikes with Obama being an easy one to bring up). Just like the four on Mount Rushmore these things aren’t what we typically call out because they either were “of the times” or not on the same scale as their accomplishments.

I think those are both valid picks. If you can only pick one game it’s going to have to be one that changed how the world looked at video games.

I mean, a lot of TV has murders in it. There is a huge market for showing realistic murder.

But I get the feeling your saying that there isn’t a huge market for showing real people dying realistically without their permission. But that’s more a technicality. The question is, is the content or the production of the content illegal. If it’s not a real person, who is the victim of the crime.

I think naming a single game is hard, but most influencial franchise in gaming would have to be Mario. Between the platformers, smash, kart and the music it is just so widely recognizable.
