It would be better to keep them integrated in communities so they can serve as elders- providing advice, supporting children and parents, and spreading their community’s history.
The care homes are the problem, not the need for care.

forced medication of prisoners
Yeah, introducing an unwanted chemical into a prisoner’s body is totally different from… introducing an unwanted chemical into a non-prisoner’s body.
This took a while to load and it really looked like a Chad-ified picture of Ben Shapiro. I was so horrified at the suggestion.
Yeah, I don’t love the idea of being covered in bugs or snakes or something, but it’s definitely worth a huge sum of money. I know eating live scorpions (or similar) isn’t worth it for me, and I’m pretty sure I’d literally have a heart attack if I had to do a heights challenge, so they’re definitely not paying enough.
As awful as I found fear factor itself (I’m very afraid of heights and squeamish), I’d still prefer it.
Dolph lundgren looks up from his coffee, feeling strangely insulted

So you were just being racist? She’s from San Diego and a Hindu, the actual problem.

Goa is a very Catholic region in India, I think you meant to specify Hindu, not Indian.

Only if you have enough water to replenish it. If not, it fucks you faster

I’m normally quite good at listening to my body’s signs, but I can’t deal with heat at all. I don’t know if it comes on too quickly for me to adjust or if I’m just not built for it (all of my ancestors came from a cold, wet rock).
When I try to build up my heat tolerance, I run into a delayed onset of symptoms, which makes it hard not to overdo it. I’ll feel mostly fine until I go to eat my next meal, then I have zero appetite (which can last for hours to days, so I can’t just fast). I try eating melons, cucumbers, citrus, and drinking a lot of water, which appears to work for preventing dehydration, but it doesn’t work to provoke hunger. If I force something more substantial down anyway, I puke. If I just eat what I can when I can (I eat mostly at night in the summer), I lose too much weight.
Can you explain what signs exactly you look for that tell you you need to take a break/slow down?

Oh, I’m not trying to imply that. I ride a traditional bike myself in an incredibly hilly area, and it can absolutely be done (though it really sucks sometimes). I’m just noting the reality that there’s less effort involved in flat cycling than in hilly cycling and the Netherlands is famously flat.
People in really hilly areas can also get e-bikes, which would still be a huge improvement over driving, but wouldn’t bring us down to the transportation emissions of the Netherlands.
I wanna say it’s a kaka-cacao misunderstanding, but cacao is not a crazy word to use and kaka is less common a term in English than in most other European languages

The Netherlands is also one of the flattest countries in the world. We should still all cycle more, but it would require much more effort to cycle 5km in San Francisco or the Himalayas than in the Netherlands.
I still enjoy many dark jokes internally too, but I definitely don’t share them with as wide an audience as I used to- I’ll make a joke about priests molesting kids to my husband, close friends, or immediate family, but I know that I can’t generally know who has been impacted by that, and I’m not trying to fuck up someone’s day with a flip joke.
I also don’t enjoy dead baby jokes nearly as much as I used to, because I’ve now known several people who’ve had a late miscarriage or stillbirth, or whose children died, and I can’t separate the punchline from the image of their faces while grieving or talking about the loss. I still like dark humor about things that directly impacted me, but for things that only happened to loved ones, I can’t see the humor anymore.
I drank Malibu once, when I was 12. I got very drunk (as 12 year olds do), and haven’t been able to smell it without nausea since

Yeah, unfortunately they’re not rare with DB :(

That obviously can’t be done regularly without impacting the whole system though. Meaning either that’s why they’re always late everywhere, or that doesn’t happen very frequently
Most of the older people I know already support their communities in some way. I’m sorry if the ones you know don’t.
I wonder if that’s a society-wide impulse where you are- are younger people active in the community where you live? Is there a sense of community at all?
