Technology@lemmy.world•Traffic Camera Captures Woman Driving With Her Phone on Her Lap (Face Down), The State Mailed Her a $1251 'Public Safety' TicketEnglish
2·2 days agoMy issue with it is the complete lack of transparency in the spyware. It would be better if we were actually told about the spyware and the data it sends is accessible to us. But right now we have no idea what they’re sending, how any of it affects our insurance rates, and have no way to dispute anything resulting from it.
They were also released in a fully playable state. The game worked out of the box, or that would be the end of a game studio, or at least that game.

92·12 days agoYou might not sell games, but other people do especially if they don’t like a game.
Now the game just sits in a virtual library unplayed. If there was a way to sell, or loan, a game license to a friend or something, that’d be cool.

Technology@lemmy.world•PlayStation will no longer be offering games on discEnglish
1·13 days agoYeah, flash certainly wouldn’t work for actually running the game, but it would work great for a 1 time distribution/transfer method to the game to a pic/console’s drive.

Technology@lemmy.world•PlayStation will no longer be offering games on discEnglish
3·13 days agoThey could just use a flash drive to distribute the game. Copy the game to the local drive…and wait, that’s how PC gaming works.
The appeal of CDs, or game cartridges, was the ability to load a game and immediately start playing (well after the loading screen as everything loaded into ram) and you could play the game on other consoles (bring game to friend or resell it). To recreate that, most games would have to be shipped on a 256gb ssd so the game can just load from that on any computer. I have a feeling that’s not the best business strategy right now

Technology@lemmy.world•‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ Going Digital-Only Is a Car Crash for Physical MediaEnglish
2·18 days agoThe issue is that someone else holds the key to your license. They can revoke it at any time, with 0 meaningful consequences.
We must now provide our own physical media to store the game…which in principle is fine and makes more sense than a game disk. However, the reliance on corporations to not fuck you over is the issue.
Archiving all your games is easier than said done too. To properly “keep” every game, you’ll need a lot of high-capacity storage devices. Going by common file backup strategy, we need to store at least 3 copies, ideally 1 off site somehow. That’s going to add up quick.
And hopefully your game is DRM free and doesn’t try to phone home looking for a valid license on a deprecated server.

81·20 days agoI just tell them I don’t like these apps scanning pictures of my kids and knowing their exact location at all times. My phone also has a lot of my kids pictures that I don’t want being scanned for AI.
If a 40year old man had constant microphone, camera and GPS access to my kids, I’d be justified to go buy a gun. Why should a “corporation” be treated any different?
And privacy is not about hiding, it’s about keeping nosey people out of our lives. Like closing the windows when you’re talking about your finances so the neighbors can’t hear. You’re not hiding anything illegal, you just don’t want strangers to know every detail of your life.

3·21 days agoNext update? No, it’s re-enabled automatically when ever you have an important conversation, that way you can’t forget to turn it back on!
I hate what google has become.
Gas pump ads are the worst. I stopped going to a station because they couldn’t be muted, and they’re the ads that scream at you or brain rot craft videos. I wouldn’t have minded so much if was only the “good news” segment or usefull PSAs. But yelling at me at 7am to buy beef jerky is not okay.
If a person came up to you at the pump and offered a flyer, that’s okay. But if they started screaming at you to buy their shit, that’d be harassment. Gas pumps should not be allowed to “harass” people.
Beep must have written the bot.

19·26 days agoThis is like if Walmart started policing what products Target can sell and policing what products can go into your house, while not bothering to police their own store.
Start digging. Make sure you clearly pull out a few hundreds and put them back in.
That’s why you gotta do a full pat down to throw them off.
