    I think platypus is a cool name. Just like octopus means “eight feet”, platypus means “flat foot”, presumably because of their webbed front feet. Incidentally, “flatfoot” is also old slang for “police officer”.

    Also, since it’s derived from Greek, similar to octopus, the plurals for platypus can be platypuses, or the amazing “platypodes”! Where the “podes” part is pronounced “poe-dees”, leaving open all sorts of childish jokes utilizing “dees” or “deez”.

    What more could you ask for in a name?
