Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which countries would you never visit if you were a leftist journalist?
30·6 days agoThat’s kind of going against the point of being a journalist. If a journalist opposes what a country is doing, the thing they can do about it is to go to that country and report on what’s happening.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is having dual citizenship a good or bad thing?
16·8 days agoThere is no dispute in rescues. Whoever is there first can take them. That’s just practicality. You’re not going to leave your own citizen there when you’re there for a rescue. Outside of that context, you’re subject to the laws of the nation you’re standing in.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Soooooo, you guys think the orange man will follow through?
1·10 days agoRepublicans clearly don’t. I imagine there are going to be a lot of bribes paid to keep him from doing it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Imagine the US holding a "Cost-of-living crisis" protest of 100+ million. Even the army and police protest. You are tasked with making *the* list of demands. What would be on this list?
35·10 days agoThe issue is that the solution is a large increase in the minimum wage, more regulation over the healthcare industry, and a lot more taxes on the rich. 40% of the population have been brainwashed into believing the solution is a bad thing.
Less so than the Republican party that elected him in face of treason and the electoral college that abdicated their duties to refuse to elect him. Like, the framers knew there would be irrational, power-hungry populists. They used the term “Nero” as an insult. But it’s the duty of everyone else to understand that sound governance requires you to not elect them. They gave us checks and balances, and we refused to use them.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why is Oman overlooked as a travel destination?
11·15 days agoIt’s kinda dusty, slow, traditional, car dependent. It doesn’t have much in the way of tourist infrastructure/fun things to do. Even if all you want is to sit on the beach, it doesn’t have traditional beach boardwalks/towns like you could get…everywhere else.

17·16 days agoLiterally zero way to enforce it without being cruel.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why is Trump playing golf while wreaking the global economy?
13·17 days agoAt this point we are literally better off if he’s playing golf rather than making any decisions. The real question is why are republican voters not recalling their senators for not impeaching him.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?
13·18 days agoif you stay in a foreign country for 10+ years, your neighbors, shop keepers, etc. will get used to you. but really, the deciding factor in whether anyone can move to a foreign country is the work available to them. if you don’t get a good job, with reasonable hours, probably with an international company, good luck making it work.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you ever felt so checked out from your job you just want to lie on bed all day? What should I do?
4·20 days agoThat’s really been my entire existence regardless of whether I was employed or not. The single time I wasn’t like that, every other person around me wore me down until it died.
the average person doesn’t eat much if any vegetables, leafy greens, or fruit, which fill up your stomach much more than meat or bread.
I know he likes Bruce Springsteen, but he’s not really a music person in general.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is Switzerland expensive for American travelers?
131·23 days agoIt’s a luxury vacation destination. It’s amazing to visit but you’re going to pay for it. If you’re counting every $ spent, don’t go there.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Should the cripped or paralyzed person still serve time in this case?
4·24 days agoYes hiring a hitman is a crime. I met a single bed-bound person in jail, so it can happen. It’s really just extra tortuous, because they received no extra level of care over any other inmate in there that I saw. They weren’t given any accommodations to be able to socialize with others, go outside, a tablet, anything. They could probably get house arrest approved if they could afford the home care, but I’d guess it would come with extra requirements like not being allowed to associate with anyone in their gang.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do left-leaning—or not even left-leaning, but pro-choice, pro-life people who don’t care about fornication—who are also Catholics and Christians justify their religion?
4·24 days agoThe reason for the focus on the quickening was that it was how they determined whether the baby was alive. They didn’t have ultrasounds, so, until the baby kicked, they had no idea whether it was in fact a healthy baby. I know this because we studied it in crim. That’s what got California to update its murder statute from the common law definition.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do left-leaning—or not even left-leaning, but pro-choice, pro-life people who don’t care about fornication—who are also Catholics and Christians justify their religion?
4·24 days agoThe Catholic doctrine is that all people are born with a soul, and your soul is made in the image of God. In other words, your body has no importance, it is your soul that makes you god-like. In this vein, every person on earth is a child of God. It’s not an exclusive church. It’s a universal church. As a church, it does not claim to have all of the answers. If someone truly believes that God made them gay, that’s between them and God. It is not for us to judge other peoples’ sins but to love and support them as God’s children. I don’t think you can square abortion with the literal Catholic doctrine of souls though. You’d have to just not believe that. You can be pro-choice in the sense of “Women should be able to receive life-saving healthcare” but elective abortions does not square.

Eh…I was hoping they would fix the cream cheese. It used to be good before VC ruined it.
