That doesn’t make any sense, sure it will reflect slightly more heat from your body back inside but that is negligible because the vast majority of body cooling happens due to convection and/or evaporative cooling and/or “contact cooling” depending on heat/humidity/how loose your clothes are. Nah, LLMs are pretty useful for a wide range of tasks. I would grant them the status of “locally intelligent for text manipulation”. They can find patterns, transform, compress, and even generate text pretty well if you formulate the prompt correctly.

The problem with them is two-fold:

1. There is no actual grounded intelligence involved and yet they are used for all sorts of tasks where it is required, like research or decision-making or software architecture or creative writing.
2. They also captured human emotional states really well, which makes them scarily addictive for people looking for human connection (see all the “companion” chatbots) and terrifyingly useful for pushing propaganda, misinfo, and scams. This also multiplies the first problem tenfold because LLMs are trained to come off as confident which means they will “pretend” to be good at things they really are not, and if you don’t know how the underlying tech works you can be lulled into believing its confidently incorrect research results or execute a totally insane decision it makes.

I feel like the main reason people are fixated on the epstein files is because those children were mostly “western” (americans or trafficked from europe). It depends on whether this is about retiming existing lights (which is relatively cheap) or building new ones. Retiming existing lights is fine, building new ones just shows that engineers don’t care about the problem and would rather waste millions of $ on a non-solution.

I don’t want traffic lights. If you design your cities properly (with no personal cars) traffic lights are not needed at all. Outside cities traffic lights don’t make sense anyways, intersections there are better off as roundabouts.

There should be less car infrastructure, not more. Crossing a 6-lane road will suck regardless of whether there’s a traffic light or not. Both asphalt roads and traffic lights are very expensive to build and maintain, better to invest a bit more up-front in tram tracks and rip the socioeconomic benefits for decades to come.

Idunno, I actually sleep more than 8h often. Today was ~9.5 (from 23:00 until 8:30) The thing that makes it possible for me is (1) WFH so no commute, (2) no kids, (3) “white-collar” job so I can just sleep in and start working a bit later.

I realize that this is incredibly privileged and not everyone can sleep like that. But it is definitely possible too.

On the other hand, it is not subject to air or wind which means there’s no mechanical stress apart from its own weight (which is 1/6 of what it would weigh on Earth), and there’s no oxygen to attack the fibers either. I don’t know for sure but I feel like it is currently still there, but will extremely fragile and would disintegrate on the slightest touch.
