It’s almost as if Lemmy isn’t a homogenous entity with a single viewpoint… Wow! Who would’ve thought?

Exhibit AClearly, as can be seen in Exhibit A, the Roman leader Julius Caeser is saluting his fealty towards the Gauls. Therefore the Gauls are superior. I will take no further questions and rest my case.

Lefty Memes@lemmy.dbzer0.com•He sees you when you're (not) readingEnglish
15·18 days agoMost leftist books are complicated and boring, this one is simpler and more engaging. Maybe give it a try before tackling the dry tomes.
Berkman’s work explains anarchist philosophy in terms that uninitiated readers can understand. The book’s chapters are brief, and many of them begin with questions (e.g., “Is Anarchism Violence?”, “Will Communist Anarchism Work?”). A number of the ideas he discusses are similar to those proposed in The Conquest of Bread by Peter Kropotkin, whom Berkman cites throughout. Berkman avoids the sort of jargon and technical language that is often used by political writers in favour of plain language. As he writes in his foreword:
Anarchist books, with few exceptions, are not accessible to the understanding of the average reader. It is the common failing of most works dealing with social questions that they are written on the assumption that the reader is already familiar to a considerable extent with the subject, which is generally not the case at all. As a result there are very few books treating of social problems in a sufficiently simple and intelligible manner. For the above reason I consider a restatement of the Anarchist position very much needed at this time—a restatement in the plainest and clearest terms which can be understood by every one. That is, an ABC of Anarchism.[11]

9·18 days agoStalin’s position as a true believer is bonkers!
Lenin there could be an argument for, although I think he was just a very clever manipulator that used the guise of being on the side of the people to gain power. But there’s at least a debate to be had there.
But Stalin?! Aye, that’s bollocks.

26·18 days agoCommunists only in name.
We don’t refer to the German National Socialist Workers Party as socialists, they’re Nazis. Or the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea as democratic, they’re a dictatorship. So why should we refer to the Bolsheviks, or Communist Party of the Soviet Union, as communist when they neither achieved or even attempted to implement communism?
We need to get over this combination of self named propaganda and western cold war propaganda and separate the term communist from the USSR.
