What do you think happens to male chicks in the egg industry? I’ll give you a hint, it involves industrial grinders and pink paste.

Cows produce milk for their young, like all mammals. The “need” to milk them arises from milk production, in which we forcibly impregnate cows and take their young away. You can hardly call something a “need” if it only happens once you purposefully impregnate a cow for its milk and abduct their calves.

And that’s disregarding the atrocious conditions in hatcheries and dairy farms.

The egg and dairy industries are the meat industry, and honestly anyone who’s vegetarian for “ethical” reasons without immediate plans to become vegan are deluding themselves.

  • My first partner was adopted from China as a baby, so she looked Chinese but culturally she was 100% Canadian, raised in a very meat & potatoes kind of family.

My mom is a bit of a hippy, so she loved cooking stuff from all different cuisines and we’d regularly use chopsticks at home if eating Asian foods.

We went to a Chinese place together once and the staff were howling with laughter at the white kid using chopsticks opposite the Asian woman with a knife and fork. She learned how to use chopsticks shortly after, haha.

  • Unless I absolutely have to for logistical reasons, I refuse to talk about me being a vegan to others.

It typically results in a debate in which I have no desire to participate. I’ve had the same conversations with people over and over again in my 9 years being vegan. I always either have to censor my opinions, or I end up upsetting someone when I say I think this thing they’re doing is morally wrong.

People rarely engage the topic with genuine curiosity, they usually just want me to assuage their cognitive dissonance and tell them “oh the way you eat animals is totally acceptable!”
