Is the joke that Germans are just gagging to fix something mechanical that allies can just wait around a broken vehicle and pick them off?
The Nazis are setting up a booby trap on a fake or disabled German tank, so that when Allied troops investigate the abandoned vehicle, they’ll set off the explosives and blow themselves sky-high - a common technique, and one that Allied troops often dreaded in excess of the actual losses it inflicted.
Not really sure why allies would spend a lot of time poking around a disabled tank.
If you pass something that looks abandoned, but then turns out to be the enemy waiting for a good target, or the vehicle ends up reclaimed by enemy troops who were out scouting or sleeping or taking a piss and suddenly wreaks havoc behind your lines, you’re going to have to answer for that (if you’re unlucky and one of the poor fucks caught by the suddenly-active tank, with your life). For that reason, when troops see a tank that looks disabled in a warzone, you have to confirm that it actually is disabled. Even if it’s an obvious decoy, you have to make sure that it’s not hiding something worse than a booby trap, like enemy troops
Lob a grenade in there and move on.
Of course, if that’s what they’re planning on you doing, all they have to do is booby-trap the hatch.
